Pierre Jaubert
French record producer and musician (b. June 27, 1929 - present)
Pierre Jaubert is a French record producer who got his start playing the harmonica in Nazi occupied Paris. In the 1970s he produced several influential Disco records. Most notably: Magic Love album in 1977 by Michele and a Body Party credited to Brenda Mitchell, but both were a pseudonym for Chantal Curtis and Get Another Love by Chantal Curtis in 1979 under her name. Just to clarify, Jaubert actually worked with a singer by the name of Brenda Mitchell, but she didn't sing on the records with her name on them except for her participation in the group Frantique where she did sing, Strut Your Funky Stuff. In addition, Jaubert produced the pop hit Dancing in the Moonlight by King Harvest with vocals by Doc Robinson.
In addition to Jaubert's musical talents, he claims to have the ears of an insect as he is able to hear things no one else can. He used that talent to spot Chantal Curtis solely by hearing her speak to another person while walking down the streets of Paris.
He tells DiscoMusic.com:
I started playing the harmonica in 1945 and was playing the repertory of the typical French accordion player. That is what I was influenced by because in that period of time with many accordionists around, and no TV yet, I was able to be very creative with melodies, much better than now. I started playing in night clubs in 1950 and got my Green Card in 1956. I learned first about R&B in Chicago, in 1959 listening to WVON (' e Rodney Jones ) and stayed there up to now.
Darkest Light I recorded in 1974. I also registered a trade mark name of LAFAYETTE AFRO ROCK BAND, and hired many American musicians going through Paris. Did a lot of jazz: I recorded two albums with John Lee Hooker in Paris in 1969 26 songs in one night (two albums) with Lowell Fulsom, PS Leary on drums, Carey Ball on bass, harmonica. Charles Mingus in 1970 two albums (Blue Bird -- Pytipancopus Erectus).
