DJ Ronny D

Ronald Ramsdell - Minneapolis, MN Disco DJ and radio personality

Ronny DDJ Ronny D. (Ronald Ramsdell) began his Disco DJ career in October of 1976. He was introduced to his first discotheque experience in Chicago and was instantly smitten. When he returned to his hometown of Saint Paul, MN he contacted the majority of retail music stores in the Twin Cities to purchase all of the Disco music available. He started a collection that has since grown to thousands of titles.

DJ Ronny D continued researching music, contacting DJs around the country to learn about new and unique music, and to learn what was hot in different markets. Because New York City was considered the capitol of Disco throughout the world during its heyday, Ronny D visited the most popular discotheques in the Big Apple in 1977. He studied the special styles of the DJs to enhance his true dedication to the music, the industry and to allow his loyal following to experience the best in entertainment. While there he learned of an organization that specialized in importing music from Europe and other cities from around the world. From that point Ronny D started to acquire the Disco music that other countries were enjoying. One of the benefits of this connection was that Ronny D picked up many remixes of songs from the United States that were in a 12 inch Disco disc format that allowed a higher fidelity to the reproduction.

Ronny DOne evening in the fall of 1976, DJ Ronny D visited Scotties on Seventh in Minneapolis, which was one of the hottest discotheques at the time. He struck up a conversation with the DJ discussing Disco music being played in the Twin Cities and around the county. The conversation was overheard by a promoter who was intrigued with Ronny D's knowledge of the music and business. The promoter immediately offered him a DJ position at a new Disco in town.

In 1979 Ronny D was offered the DJ position at Shieks, which at the time was the most popular nightclub in the Twin Cities. In addition Ronny D was invited to spin music at various discos around the Twin Cities and the U.S., which he continued to do into the mid 1980s.

In 1985, the Disco scene started to change into a new type of music that at the time was different than the style and feel of the original club music. However, Ronny D continued to embrace the music scene with the music by hosting gatherings at different venues around the Twin Cities.

Currently, DJ Ronny D is spinning the best in Disco music at various nightclubs and private gatherings. He has spun, and continues to spin music for legendary artists, including Donna Summer and Chaka Kahn. In 2005, Ronny D was proud to become part of the KFAI radio team. In addition to hosting his Club Disco show, you can also hear him on Caribbean Jam, Corazon Latino, African Rhythms, and other shows when he fills in for his radio colleagues. Because of his love and passion for the Caribbean over the years, he has become fluent in other formats including Reggae, Calypso, Salsa, Merengue, Dance Hall, Lover's Rock, Lounge and African music.

Ronny D still remains amongst the most active DJs in Disco and dance music. His passion for the music will never die, it only continues to grow.

Ronny D did an interview with the Queen of Disco, Donna Summer, which he would like to share with the readers of DiscoMusic.com.... Interview with Donna Summer
