Dave Amerman a.k.a. Dave 12 Pack Amerman interviewed by Dayna Newman (b. 1983 - present)

Dave Amerman is interview by DiscoMusic.com member Dayna Newman

Dave AmermanThis is an interview with DJ Dave Amerman aka 12 pack.

Hi Dave, thanks for letting me chat with you for a minute. Most people know you as 12 pack from the highly successful reality shows I Love New York and I Love Money both were very high in ratings. You were undeniably the hottest male member of both casts although the entertainer comes in second. How has the experience of being on two highly successful Reality Television shows impacted your life up till now?

Dave Amerman: Well I've gone from an everyday whoever, to an everyday whoever who everyone wants a picture with and people know who I am.

I feel you. Being someone that has been around celebrities most of my life I know people always want a piece of you in one way or another. Dave, let me get to some musical questions because I"m sure people wear you out about the gossip and drama on the shows although it is juicy. Who are your musical influences as far as DJs and musical artists?

Dave Amerman: I grew up listening to Jonathan Peters, Tiesto, and Tony Draper in New York City nightclubs. The one summer when I was at my height of the party scene was when Reina teamed up with Jonathan Peters with No One's Gonna Change You. I must have seen her out that summer four or five times at Sound Factory, Exit, and Down the Jersey Shore.

I love hearing the newer breed of DJs take on things. I heard a couple of your beats on your page and I must say they were pretty hot. They had very strong house roots with a little techno thrown in. What kind of dance music do you enjoy playing the most?

Dave Amerman: I enjoy New York City Underground House, the New Jersey clubs play a little more la-di-da sh*t, but I like the hard-ass non-stop 133 to 135 BPM.

My kind of guy and you are absolutely correct, New York City and New Jersey are worlds when it comes to music. Underground House is the deal for today"s standards.

I know you do a lot of personal appearances because of your sudden fame and you"re a very hot commodity right now. Do you incorporate your DJ'ing skills into your appearances or is this something you would like to do more of?

Dave Amerman: I do it for fun, but why go to a club and spin you know when I can make a couple grand just to sit there and drink? When the show appearances wear off this Fall Winter and Spring I will be doing a nationwide tour spinning my beats.

Oh I hear that, I would be sitting or dancing and getting my drink on as well. As a young up and coming, where and in what direction do you see dance music evolving into?

Dave Amerman: Its all about house music, it"s getting huge. If anyone came to Pacha, Factory, or Exit and didn't like the music... I probably wouldn't get along with them anyway.

Baby it"s been huge. You"re just hip enough to be able to see the light and feel the essence of the beat that"s been making people dance for decades, a big ole thank you to the legendary Frankie Knuckles for that. I told you I was going to school you on old school 101 and I look forward to that. But I would like to get your input on new school so to speak. Do you think rap music is essential to today"s dance music or do you prefer more classic sounding beats?

Dave AmermanDave Amerman: I refuse to spin it, I know its got a huge market and people love it, but I like the scene where people are bouncing around all day on the beach and the girls all have implants, the dudes are all roided up etc.

Alrighty then, I agree with the rap issue, I don"t feel it brings anything to the dance floor that"s cutting edge or beneficial. If you could be resident DJ at any club in the present what would that club be?

Dave Amerman: It would be Pacha, Surf Club, or Mansion.

Okay Dave, if you could have been around back in the day and been resident DJ of any club what would it have been and why?

Dave Amerman: Studio 54 or even Limelight... That"s the same sh*t as it is today just they are the pioneers of the industry in their own respects.

Both legendary clubs, which I have been to when they were open. I know you have a clothing line. I really like the garments as they have a hard edge to them while still maintaining a sense of club wear ability. How has that fared for you so far? And I hope you like the graphic I made for your DJ page.

Dave Amerman: I love what you did with my DJ page, I've taken a backseat in the projects that aren't number one in my arsenal such as my clothing line, but they are still alive. I found a professional who specializes in that and he"s going to work on it and use my name that"s all.

Describe a night of partying for you in some sense of detail if you would of course you don"t have to reveal anything you don"t want to.

Dave Amerman: I go out Saturday night and drink with my friends, then end up in New York and dance till around 12pm the following Sunday afternoon then head to the shore and chill till 10 that night. So do the math.

I"m not good at numbers, but I get your drift. I just want to get the record straight. Key word Straight... I know there was a lot of gossip by haters about your sexuality. I have EXTREMELY strong Gay-Dar because I have lots of gay friends and you don"t make my meter go off. Just because you have a body from the Greek gods and worked as a dancer at a gay club, so they say, does not make you gay, My nephew, who is completely straight, danced at a gay bar because he made like ten times more money than he did in a straight bar. All he had to do was smile, dance and collect his money. Finish dancing then goes home to his fiance. I don"t understand why straight men can"t have a great body, dress hip and have great hair without people speculating about their sexuality. Take it as a compliment, most gay men are super HOT. I loved the way you just let it roll off your back because you know who you are and I"m sure you wouldn"t be ashamed if you were gay.

Dave Amerman: If I were gay I'd say it. If I danced at gay bars I wouldn't be ashamed of it... However, to have been considered a dancer and opting to not demoralize myself and then have everyone think I was anyway, defeats the purpose of why I chose not to do it in the first place. I have no shame in my actions, but I will also attest to all of them to the fullest and in this matter, its just a simple promotion I did once that has come back to haunt me in the worst way.

Well there are plenty of worse things they could lie about, even though you"re straight it"s very chic to be gay these days. Well Dave we will be looking for big things from you in the future. You already have a hot sound and once it"s honed and you get your niche I have no doubt you will be in great demand from clubs all over the country.

I have to ask you, Tiffany New York Pollard has a new show called New York Goes to Hollywood and she is HILARIOUS. Is she a very fun person to be around? Her comedic skills are off the chain. I know she couldn"t be as bitchy as they portrayed her on I Love New York.

Dave Amerman: She"s cool, we got along. Her head is a little big now and I don"t think people's heads should blow up no matter what they accomplish, just treat her with the respect she deserves for what she has accomplished and there should be a mutual respect.

Well, heads can explode just as fast as they can swell, so hopefully her head won"t turn into helium.

Thank you again Dave and I hope we can do this again sometime soon. I"m sure everyone would love to keep afoot of what you"re up to. Here"s a big DVA hug for you, you sexy devil you.

Dave Amerman: You're the best babe.
