Frankie Valli
May 3rd 1934
Frankie Valli was born in Newark, New Jersey on May 3rd 1934 or May 3rd 1937, depending on who you believe. A fellow JERSEY BOY!!!
Valli started singing in 1951, bounced around for almost a decade before the FOUR SEASONS were born in 1960. I could write for hours about all of their hits, from SHERRY to BIG GIRLS DON'T CRY, but there were so many hits, that their anthology album can't hold all those hits!!
I could easily write a dozen pages about their success, but after all, this is DiscoMusic.com and I will deal with his DISCO success! But I have to mention CAN'T TAKE MY EYES OFF YOU, a CLASSIC in every form and sense of the word. This song is sung by thousands of bands and vocalists. A staple at every wedding in the North East. It is still in their JUKE-BOXES!! I have heard this song in so many television shows and Movies that I don't notice it. I expect it to be there! It was made into a DISCO CLASSIC in the eighties by the GAY San Fransisco recording mafia!
Frankie played up and down the Jersey Shore in the early 1970s, playing old standard FOUR SEASON hits and testing the waters for his up-coming assault on the DISCO market. In late 1974, before their release, he started singing two songs, one a ballad the other a future DISCO CLASSIC. Once released in 1975 they BOTH went to #1. MY EYES ADORED YOU was a beautiful slow song that every woman wanted her man to sing. Then the instant MEGA DISCO HIT, SWEARIN TO GOD!! Those two hits played every night, in every DISCO in 1975 and parts of 1976. That made FRANKIE the most requested performer in the east coast.
His spectacular voice left us wanting much more. So he gave us OUR DAY WILL COME, then another #1 DISCO and POP hit, the theme from the movie version of GREASE!!
Frankie Valli subsequently lost his hearing (could it be the DISCO speakers?) and it took a few operations in 1980 to restore it. FRANKIE VALLI then went back to touring with the FOUR SEASONS on the lucrative oldies circuit tour. Most recently we saw FRANKIE VALLI get WHACKED on THE SOPRANOS!!!
