Carlos Nodal
Disco DJ (b. 1950s d. 1990s??)
Carlos Nodal was a Jersey boy who started as a deejay in the early seventies. He was ahead of his time, trying to make his music, continuous, without dead air. In a time before mixers, Carlos would cut mix, coming on strong and instantly at just the right time. When the first mixers appeared, he continued doing his now specialized form of mixing.
Soon Carlos Nodal was up and down the Jersey Shore clubs during the summer. During the off months, he would be found at places like, FIRE & ICE (North Bergen NJ), CAMEO, the IMPERIAL MANOR and CREATIONS. Each and every one a DISCO from the early seventies that set the standard in Northern Jersey. Soon he came to Miami, where as a Billboard reporter, he gained a much deserved reputation as one of South Florida's best.He was HONEY FOR THE BEARS, the first really spectacular Club that was the talk of MIAMI for years.
Working with Bo Crane, Carlos Nodal installed and provided deejays at many clubs that were springing up and wanted him. After the City forced HONEY FOR THE BEARS to go away, he resurfaced at the WATERFRONT a gay club, that was into the music in a big way. Then Nodal was the original deejay at CASANOVAS, and groomed Ciro LLenra into the super star he became. Carlos is no longer with us, having died. I just found out about it, and wish I knew more. Help me out everyone.

Dec 17, 09 | 2:01 pmI knew Carlos when he was married to my best high school friend Emily Garcia. They had a daughter named Monica. I'm very surprised to hear that Carlos passed away in 1999. I would like so much to get in touch with Emily or Monica but I don't know where to begin to find them. The last time I saw Emily was in 1975/76 on a vacation in Miami. If anyone knows how to get in touch with either one, I would appreciate a writeup on this site or an e-mail.
Thanks, Lucy Garcia

Oct 26, 09 | 1:15 pmCarlos and I met way back in West New York, New Jersey, where we went to High School together. He began his music career playing trumpet at the Memorial High School Marching Band... Then went on to play trumpet with "The Jersey Cuban Boys" JCB, (the lead singer and guitarist of that band was Hansel... the same Hansel as in "Hansel y Raúl) I remember going out with Carlos at least 4 times a week into "The City" Manhattan, just to hear the upcoming DJ trends of the 70's, being one of the top DJ's at that time a young man by the name of Francis who used to spin at "The Sanctuary" & "Havens" (downtown)... We used to go back home and make our own "mixes" or even imitate some of Francis's mixes (i.e "Follow me" Isley Brothers with "Life & Death in G&A Abaco Dream)... Wow what memories. The first club where Carlos spun was named "Spruce Goose" in Seacaucus, N.J., then there was "Mr. D's" Elmwood Park, N.J., "Ginza's", Manhattan... "Wild Child" Jersey City, N.J, .... "Club Lido" at Long Branch, N.J, etc. I last saw him in 1984 or '85 in a trip I made to Florida and when I called him right away he managed to make time to get together with me... My dear, good friend Carlos... "Trompeta" as many of us called him, wherever you are, you were a great friend... You always stood up to your word... and I admired you for that... Thanks for the memories!!!... and If Mónica or Emily (Monica's mom) read this, or anyone contact them please tell them to comment on this very page. I requested this page to notify me via e-mail in case of any follow up... Thanks, Tico

Mar 31, 09 | 9:08 pmCarlos, was one of a kind. We were good friends. I wonder how Monica his daughter is doing?....I was 17 when he let me play at the Waterfront. He saw talent in me & he always let me play for a while or when he was tired. He taught me that LOYALTY WAS EVERYTHING, and that I would always be a part of his small circle of friends if I respected that, so I did. I miss him so much. I know you are in Heaven my friend and like you use to tell me: WE LOVE YOU....LOL. He knows what I mean. VIDAL

Dec 17, 08 | 8:53 amHey everyone my name is Yami My mother was Carlos' girlfriend for the last 9 years of his life well they where together way way before that I was like 7 years old so just whanted to say that Ciro was there at the hospital when Carlos died all the way to the end.
Well everyone, Thanks for the great comments about my step dad (Carlos Nodal). I called my mom so she can write a short letter telling everyone exactly what happened to Carlos the last 10 years of his life. When she gives me the letter I will translate it and add it. But just to conform Carlos died of lung cancer in 1999 and yes he did smoke at work all night long but not in the daytime.

Oct 17, 08 | 10:21 pmCarlos was a great guy. Always a smile on his face. During the Casanovas days, his favorite saying was "que pasa familia".
I hung out with him , and DJ Jorge Valdes towards his final years at Mystique, Cheetah Club in Sobe and was a memeber of his DJ Wizz record pool.

Apr 24, 08 | 9:58 amI did not know Carlos passed away. He was a legend in Miami. How come CIRO hasn't written something here? Wasn't he your best friend?

Mar 01, 08 | 8:17 pmA fellow deejay down here in Miami has just informed me that CARLOS NODAL passed away in 1999 from lung cancer. I don't remember CARLOS being a smoker, except an occasional CUBAN CIGAR. But I may be mistaken. I miss my little friend, he was very good to a lot of deejays, I was one. I am a little disappointed that South Florida's deejay community hasn't responded to our FRIEND'S page. CIRO LLerena knew him best, they worked together for years in various clubs. Bo Crane also was very much a friend of CARLOS NODAL, someone should tell him about this site and this page. I would like to hear what his friends have to say about Carlito.

OMG. I AM AT AWE.....SOMETHING MADE ME THINK ABOUT CARLOS TONIGHT, I KNEW CARLITOS WAYYYY BEFORE WHEN HE USED TO PLAY AT SHANGHAI, ON THE BEACH IF ANY OF YOU REMEMBER. I DATED HIM FOR A WHILE BUT HE WAS A HEAVY SMOKER THEN. I AM SO SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT HIS PASSING. GOD MUST HAVE AN AWESOME DISCO UP THERE. I WILL NEVER FORGET THOSE GREAT TIMES.
