New York DJ (b. Sept. 5, 1961 - Present)
I was born and raised in New York City en EL Barrio, raised in the boogie down Bronx, started mixing music at 16 yrs, old back in 1978 with my first Panasonic Technic equipment complete with Technic turntables which later became the turntables of choice in the industry, Got my first gig DJing in a small spot by Kennedy Airport in a little hotel by the Vanwyck Expressway (Kasbah Club), joined IDRC Record Pool in 1980 and within a short period of time was also a part of the Feedback Committee who used to report weekly to 98.7 Kiss FM, 107.5 WBLS FM, and 92 WKTU what tracks were hot at the clubs weekly so that radio stations placed those tracks in regular rotation.
Also was a guest DJ for the 98.7 Kiss FM Summer Clean Up Concerts and the Concert Series for 98.7 Kiss FM and the NYC Board Of Education in NYC public schools. I had a mixed show program at WBLS from 2am - 4am and at times from 4am - 6am on Fridays and Saturday early mornings or late night which ever you were in. I dealt with AL Roberts at WBLS who was the promotional Director there.
I moved to Puerto Rico and played there at the Acropolis in my hometown in Manati, Puerto Rico for a couple of gigs. Thats where I met Legendary DJ Danny Rodriguez who was resident DJ at the most popular club in Puerto Rico, "The San Juan San Juan Disco" in Old San Juan, PR. Got home sick and missed the NYC nightlife, I return to NYC again and became resident DJ at Wings Night Club in Queens, NY at the Traveler's Hotel across from Laguardia Airport, I then switched jobs with DJ Wayne Burgos who was then DJ at Skate Key in the Bronx...not the new one but the old one up on Westchester Ave. Was there for a hot moment and then switched to USA Roller Rink in Fort Hamilton Parkway, Bklyn NY. was there until it closed down so then got a spot at Night Gallery, NYC (afterhours club) on 23rd St. and 8th Ave. Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays with long time friend DJ Louie "Lou" Gorbea. We were there until it closed down in the mid 80's.
Had a new born son and was away for a while doing the daddy thing raising my son and daughter. Continued DJing at local parties around my way in Jersey when time allowed and in 1998 founded Vaultraiderz Productions...
I'm currently still trying to do my part in keeping real deep soulful house music alive, so just trying to do what I can do to expose really good music that is not finding it's way to the radio stations but deserve to be heard. Thru my mix cds, rotation on my weekly internet radio show playlists on prepartyradio.com, remixes, and re edits, trying to give artists the most exposure within my power promoting their projects. I see myself as a conduit between artists, fans, other producers, fashion heads, other dj's, promoters, and industry heads who are keeping Dance and House music alive today!....DJFM Vaultraiderz Productions.
