Rick Powell
Australian Disco DJ (b: March 13, 1955 - present)
Rick Powell was one of the first disco djs in Australia, (starting off as a dj in the UK in 1969) indeed the very first in a licensed club, many years at the legendary Lidcombe Dancers Club where people queued in their hundreds to get in. Later moving on to Auburn Baseball Club, stints at Maxy's, War & Peace, Hazyland, Bondi Lifesaver and a hundred more.
Djs of any calibre numbered very few in Australia in the early years of disco (Thank god) but early recognition must also go to Gordon Alexander, AJ the Dj, Angie nacson, Dave Nadin.
What incredible days they were. My opening theme in the middle of the era was 'Salsoul Orchestra's 2001 (A disco Odyssy)' worked for many years with TVs Donny Sutherland, my greatest song would have to be 'Devils Gun' CJ & Co., most enjoyable Tony Wilson 'I Like your style". Great days.
