King Floyd

King FloydI'm sorry to report the passing of soulman King Floyd.

Date of birth
13 February 1945
New Orleans, Louisiana, USA

Date of death
6 March 2006
New Orleans, Louisiana, USA. (complications from a stroke and diabetes)

How good was his song GROOVE ME ??
How about it not only reached the #1 spot on the soul chart on a tiny obscure label .... but it stayed there for three weeks in January of 1971 ......

YOUR COMMENTS ON King Floyd

Groove Me & Woman Don't You Go Astray were the JAMS!!! The label that he recorded for was called, Chimneyville. I'd love to know more about this little label and the people behind it.

You know that New Orleans born KING FLOYD III had a hit with GROOVE ME in 1970. But did you know that it was the "B" side? WHAT OUR LOVE NEEDS was supposed to be the hit. But New Orleans deejays started playing GROOVE ME instead. It became a hit in the French Quarter. Atlantic picked up GROOVE ME, it went to the top of the R & B charts and the KING was set. Other minor hits followed, but his reputation was made. He was a constant in NEW ORLEANS, and toured the country as well. I saw him at New Jersey's BINGHAMPTON'S FERRY BOAT in 1976. He was great. He continued performing until his death. The high lite, BOOMBASTIC recorded by SHAGGY became a huge hit. A lot of his records were covered by other artists. He will be missed. GOD BLESS.
