Frankie Goodman disco Frankie was an early pioneer to the disco scene beginning his DJ career at The Bros. III in South Amboy, NJ in 1974. He also played at Club Discovery in the suburbs of Philadelphia, Sundance and the Flamenco Room in Wildwood, NJ, Raffles and The Strand in Philly, and many other top PA/NJ clubs from the mid-'70s to late '80s.

Frankie was best known as "the" Saturday night DJ at the premier Philadelphia club of the 70's-80s, The Second Story. Owner Wayne Geftman hired him just fifteen minutes after hearing him play! His energetic style, constant "working" of the crossovers, and self-generated "sound effects" (screaming with the music!) drove the crowds wild.

Frankie's technical skills were topped only by his music selection. Frankie G had soul, and it came through in the story he "wrote" with his music each night. As Frankie stated in an interview in PARTE Magazine in June 1979, "...people enjoy records that tell a story... I want people to think the artist is somewhere in the room... people want to relax, they want to let go, they want to have a good time. It's up to me. It's up to Jimmy (Del Femine), who Goodman conisders the best (lightman), and it's up to the people at the bar."

Frankie was also involved with promotional work at Pocono Record Pool and was a BILLBOARD reporter.

Frankie has left a lasting memory for the thousands of devotees that have heard him spin over the years... a void that many say can never be filled.

Frankie was simply the best overall dj there was. I was lucky enough to be his lightman at Sundance in Wildwood, NJ. Frank had some much energy when he was spinning; we all remember is yells from the booth. It was that energy that made me drive from Wildwood to Philly just to hang-out in the booth at The Second Story. They were some great times. I've lost touch with Frank but every time I have a shot of sambuca I think of Frankie-G.

Gman; it's tough to add more than has been said already about you fantastic career as a disc jockey. I can add that your musical knowledge and hard work is what put you to the top. I can remember how many trips to NY & Philly you would make just to get the "right" record for Saturday night. Not many people know how much work was put into making those nights happen...I will add some Frankygee stories as they come to me. Stay tuned..& "Ariveraderky"!!!!!

A Jersey boy who came to Philly and you felt like you knew him forever. Not only a great mixer and programer, but one of the nicest people you'd want to meet.

Frankie, Frankie. what a great jock. I remember the first time i heard frankie played it was at the jersey shore. Great jock then I heard him again when he and I both belonged to NJADD record pool. They had a meeting at brothers III and there was a tape of Frankie and Joey Colgero playing in the background. truly a nice guy and great talent. They were into the long mix at that point and made me go back to school to learn that style. Later I was lucky to become friends with Joey and he brought Frankie to hear me play in a rather empty room in a club called Abes (which would later become Zanzibar) and I remember Frankie sitting and suddenly take notice and interest when I mixed Browns live Give It Up, Turn It Loose with Anikanao. we became friends after that. But what a great jock and inspiration.

Frankie Goodman inspired black DJs as well; as the Library (1982) and Second Story (1986) and later the Strand turned to R&B & Hip-Hop, I was fortunate to study one of the greatest DJs who ever lived on some of the greatest sound systems in the delaware valley. While spinning at Kim Graves and Club Serendipity and later with the Music Company, I would travel weekly to the Library and Second story to talk shop and listen to his blends, which is largely a lost art save for a handful....Much love to the G-Man!!!
