I thank God for not only Edmund's life but the lives of his sisters and brothers as well.

They brought joy to millions of people with their music and talent.

There is nothing I love more than playing Boogie Fever, Hotline, High School Dance, Free Style, and many of the hits that they had in my Miata with the top down. People at lights, walking on the sidewalks hear it and start smiling and dancing.

Edmund's solo album "Have You Heard" is still one of my favorite albums to date. If you can get your hands on a copy listen to it. Songs like the Beauty of Nature, Time, and You Went Away are the most beautiful lyrics that you will ever hear.

Ahh the Sylvers. I loved Boogie Fever.

I had to comment here after reading the post by Diane. You dated Edmund before you became a Christian. I'm not sure how that has bearing on dating him (the fact that you're a Christian, that is). I just found it a curious thing to say. I have nothing against Christianity. I'm a Christian myself, but I wondered if there was a reason you'd not have dated him after having become a Christian?

I took my baby too the pizza parlor
to get a bite to eat yeahhh
I put some money in the jukebox for her
You know she ate her pizza dancing to the beat
She's got the Boogie Fever
She likes to boogie down
Boogie Fever
I think it's going around

Love that song. :-) Thanks for blessing us with it Edmund Sylvers. I hope you're teaching the angels some brand new songs in heaven. God bless you and your family.

I Wish That I Could Talk To You & Misdemeanor (Foster)...that's how far back my memories with the Sylvers go, and that's waaay back. AND I had the biggest crush on Edmund during the Boogie Fever years. :)

RIP Edmund.

I just found out Edmund was gone 2 years after his death. I am really saddened. I had a major crush on Foster and went to all of their concerts; I even got pass security and went backstage to meet them. At 8 years old, I was a groupie--lol. My friend even caught the bus to Palos Verdes to go to their house--the Sylver's welcomed them and played with my friends in their pool. I get the impression the Sylvers were very nice people. You have never heard about any of them in any scandals. It's better on the other side anyway...I will see him and others over there!

I looked on the web for your family 2day in hopes of finding anything about what had become of you all. I was very sad to hear of Edmond's passing. I know the Lord Jesus has given you much peace as He has me in relatives passing. Be blessed while basking in His love and peace.

Sincerely, ann
PS I was such a big fan and now still an admirer of you all.

Listening to "I Wish That I Could Talk To You" or the "Roulette Wheel of Love", it's hard to not get choked up and to lament the loss of this brother. RIP Edmond.

Please correct the entry regarding the photograph. That is DEFINITELY not a picture of James and Edmund, that is a picture Edmund and myself in front of his apartment in Richmond, VA prior to his passing. The title should state Edmund and a Sylvers fan. The picture is from 1999.

Thanks for the correction on the photo Clayton. The description will be updated later today.

In 1976 I was 11 years old. A friend I went to school with asked if I wanted to join their group for the upcoming City Talent contest... We chose the song Cotton Candy and for 2 months leading up to the contest we watched hours of beta-max tapes of The Sylvers performances on Soul Train and American Bandstand! Although the entire family could really dance it was Edmunds fluidity that I was drawn to and wanted to move with that same efortless style and flash. We took second place but performed in malls all over the west coast for the next 2 years performing The Sylvers music. We will miss our inspiration. Thank you Edmund

i know i heard the news from the 'natural' but edmund lives inside of me from head to toe-he's inside of every chamber he wants me to feel and touch. naw, i dont miss him. he's inside me right now. as i flashback, i say what a man of creativity? when i heard the song diamonds are so rare on youtube for forver yours, that should be an international best seller! really i do. for all the diamond were worn wastingly on some greedy folks finger, you should hear edmund scream and shout out the words of dignity for all of us. im a diamond and im strong everyday.for the sylvers, i thought they were exteremely bored with hotline. edmund-we still crying for your need. is anyone ask kanye west what's really in a song? tell him that. im a dreamer who cry so much that a thought provoking song-what a man? what a vision he sees in us? he's like the mlk of songs-period. i love marvin regardless but edmund is deep in side me. i wish you were my very own brother. bless you and peace. let's pray for foster also. jesus loves all of you. i luv you edmund.

This is such sad news. I was looking to see what this talented family was doing. I didn't know that Edmund passed.
I remember when about 14 or 15 yrs old and I wrote to Edmund. He wrote back. I still have the letter in my album cover.

I'm just now discovering about Edmund's death! How unfortunate and seemingly unfair!!! The Sylvers were and still are to date, a wonderful and talented family! May God continue to be with you all through your loss. I hope you all will be able to smile again, and soon and hopefully put out some more major hits! After all, you sure have it in you!!!!!

Hey Clayton:

I like the photo of you and Edmund and have a couple of questions? Was it taken when he lived on Bradley Pines Circle? or on W Grace Street? Did he ever tell you what happened that caused him to move from CA to VA and never go back?

Sincerely,

Miriam :)
Posted by: miriam | May 27, 08 | 5:19 pm

Miriam I believe Edmund moved to Richmond to work with his brother Leon who wound up in VA Beach for a while.

The picture was taken in front of W. Grace Street. Good call.

I had the televison on listening to music. Boogie Fever started playing. I ran out of the kitchen to listen. As I was listening the station I was on was showing information about the Sylvers. I was thrilled because I was interested in knowing what had happened to my favorite guy Edmund. As the song played I kept wishing they would show something. And then it came on the screen. In 2005 Edmund Sylvers passed away at the age of 47 from Lung Cancer. I think at that moment in time my young adult life flashed in front of my eyes. I could not believe what I was seeing. I can not believe he has been gone for 3 years and I didn't know. Not that he was a personal friend of mine, but he was a friend. He and his family gave me so many hours of joy through their music. Edmund, I am so sorry to hear that the world lost such a wonderful person. I lost my dad the same year in December to Lung Cancer. May God bless you and keep you in his company. And I pray that you are resting in peace.

Hi Clayton:

Thank you for answering my questions regarding Edmund Sylvers. I have a couple more questions, if you don't mind. How long did you know Edmund? Are you a member of The New Sylvers Message Board on yahoo? How tall was Edmund and what was his personality like? Where did he work in VA? Did he drive a fork lift? Was he happy with his life when you knew him?

Sincerely,

Miriam :)

Wow. What a talented group! Like most 10/11 year olds in the 1975, I loved their hits. It was in 1978 that I got hooked on their album that spawned "Don't Stop Get Off" and "Dance with Me." Foster played a mean bass! He also worked under Leon at Solar playing bass for other acts. We love you Sylvers!
