He's such a Genius. May God Bless his family and ppl that loved him, worked with him, knew him well, and always stay by his music. May him rest in peace (1943-1999). I always wanna have the oppurtunity to meet him or work with him in person which came outta my mind.
The best concert I'd ever seen, was Grover Washington, Jr. during the "Next Exit" years, in South Central PA. He hadn't been back there since the "Mister Magic" years, but when he saw how well we was received that night, he paused for a moment, thanked the audience for the love and wondered out loud what took him so long coming back. It was an unforgettable night, and one that I am blessed to have witnessed. He was such a class act and there will never be another.
MISTER MAGIC, that was how I remember Grover Washington Jr. This JAZZ great was such a great performer live. His music was so relaxing, enjoyable that one day in 1980 I step into an elevator in Downtown Miami, and on the MUZACK playing is JUST THE TWO OF US!! That was the first time a record that I actually played quite often made it to MUZACK. It opened the door for many other artist to further generate income. Just listen to JUST THE TWO OF US once, and you can understand why. I could play JUST THE TWO OF US at cocktail hour, early evening, as a ballad, late night, and even in the prime time hours, if the tip was large enough! I couldn't be bought so easily if the song couldn't hold its own on the dance floor. No one ever left, instead, more dancers appeared. We miss you, and still play your music. God Bless!
