YOUR COMMENTS ON Jr. Walker

My father grew up next door to Jr. Walker in South Bend, Indiana on Illinois St. When I was a little girl he came over to our house about two times in his RV with his children and he took us for a ride. We still have the pictures. He was a very nice man. My father still speaks fondly of him. He is truly missed.

I was a little girl in the 60s when I first heard Jr. Walker, and I followed his career to adulthood. I'd never in my life heard a sax sound quite like that: aggressive, urgent, high octane funk all up in your face.

Aulty DeWalt, aka Junior Walker, was grit and gut bucket soul personified. Motown reputation was built on spit and polish, but then Jr Walker hit the scene with "Shotgun", and turned everything upside-down! The closest sax I've ever heard since him, is David Sanborn, and when he stretches out, maybe Kenny Garrett. But nobody - and I mean nobody - can, or ever will wail a sax like Jr. Walker! Wow!

RIP

A standard on any disc jockey's collection . That is what SHOTGUN is. Of course it is not DISCO, but it is a great song that every dee jay should own. We should make it a law, IF YOU CALL YOURSELF A DEE JAY, YOU HAVE TO OWN A COPY OF "SHOTGUN". There, that's it, a new rule. Thank you JR. for all the great music you gave us. Your passing was sad. But your music makes me happy. God bless!
