A rather extensive website about Petrus, and his various projects is available at
http://www.jacquespetrus.com/
It also has what is probably the most reliable biography on the net.

I'm also a big fan of The Peter Jacques Band. "Fire Night Dance" and "Welcome Back" are two albums I treasure. If anyone knows if they're available at a reasonable price on CD please let me know. Thanks.

Change was one of my favorite groups of the early 80s. Peter was a fine producer, with a great ear for talent....can we say....Luther Vandross? :)

RIP

A box set of his disco music album (Peter Jacques Band, Macho, Revanche, etc.) was released last year as an Italian import CD box set. Worth every penny!

ALLEGEDLY MURDERED BY THE MAFIA!! Those are some serious words. But that is simply hogwash. The mafia supported Petrus throughout his life, giving him the cash needed for his many projects. Was he laundering their money? More than likely he was.Did he owe them money,? Possibly, but if they killed him, they wouldn't be able to retrieve what was owed to them. Was JACQUES FRED PETRUS a nice guy? Not really. He was a tough and ruthless business man in the seventies and eighties. A creole from GUADALOUPE , he started in France as a deejay!! Then worked for American Record distributors SAM GOODY, and he started GOODY MUSIC, who made early DISCO records. PETRUS was notorious for screwing his vocalists and bands, not paying them their dues. A typical record executive from the seventies. A tough guy who was quick with his fists at any time! People respected him, but many actually feared him. He owned many things that the opulent love, including a few Night Clubs and DISCOS, including at least one in his home Island of GUADALOUPE. It was there that he was killed. A very unstable man from Switzerland wanted into his Club, Jacques refused him entry, in his own violent way threw him out. This guy returned, followed him home, then shot him to death. There was no mafia involvement at all, it was just a rumor based on his personality and his dealings with the Italians. After all, almost all his friends and co-workers were Italian!! What was really important about JACQUES FRED PETRUS was all his fantastic music. There were many,THE GOODY BAND, RUDY, THE B.B.& Q BAND were his. But it was MACHO,REVANCHE, THE RITCHIE FAMILY, THE PETER JACQUES BAND and his greatest group, CHANGE that really established him as an ICON in the DISCO world. How about his EAR for talent??? You ever hear of Jocylin Brown? How about LUTHER VANDROSS? They not enough? He discovered JIMMY "JAM" HARRIS and TERRY LEWIS!!!!!! How about some of the music he CLAIMED he wrote and produced, I'M A MAN, FIRE NIGHT DANCE, THE GLOW OF LOVE then two DISCO CLASSICS in SEARCHING and LOVER'S HOLIDAY!!! That, my friends is a very impressive resume! No matter how you remember him, his influence and his delivery of the goods remains forever!! I shall never forget this wonderful, charismatic character of the DISCO generation. Thank you, and may GOD BLESS.
