Many remember Richie from the Studio 54 days, and they should for he was great at the studio. But, I remember the days of the Hollywood; I always felt Richie was ahead of his time, great mixes and real good read on the crowd, as well as a great choice in records to play.

A DJ's DJ. A true innovater. Hollywood was the club, and Richie was the master of the turntables. Pure history. 43rd St., NYC. Richie rocked the joint years B4 Studio 54 became the LION of the industry. Steve Rubel and Ian Schraeger were brillant to tap into the talent of NYC's #1 DJ at the time. Why they never put him up onto the pedestal he deserved is beyond my comprehension. I guess it was "their" club...and they wanted to grab all the attention. Richie was instrumental in breaking "La La Peace Song, and "I Will Survive". Rest in Peace Richie.
DiscoMusic.com's original in-depth interview from 2004 with the late Barry Lederer. Barry began by Djing at several New York area clubs and later taking over Tom Moulton's "Disco Mix" Billboard column and being one of the principals of Graebar Sound. The team at Graebar designed and installed the sound systems for the Saint, 12 West, Trocadero Transfer, Probe and several other world class night clubs in the 1970s. Read it now...
