Cory Daye

Disco singer (b. 1952 - present)

Cory Daye Cory Daye is most noted for being the voice behind Dr Buzzard's Original Savannah Band. Most Disco fans instantly recognize her voice when the 1976 disco classic "Cher Chez La Femme"is heard.
A native New Yorker, Cory was born in the Bronx.

After three albums with Dr. Buzzard's Original Savannah Band she went solo and with the help of writer producer Sandy Linzer she had success with her 1979 LP Cory and Me.

On the Disco tracks "Green Light" and "Pow Wow" Cory Daye uses her vocal talents to make the somewhat cheesy lyrics into a great listen, with its great arrangement and orchestration it's hard to resist.

The 12" hit the top of Billboard's Disco charts and the album turned gold. She hit at the right time to score a Disco hit (1979). Too bad the Disco backlash was about to occur.

After that she did some projects with August Darnell's Kid Creole & The Coconuts on several of their albums.

Corey,Pow Wow is also in my top 50 disco songs of all time..
and like I said to Marlena Shaw.. It's almost painful when you have to choose 50 out of SO many greats ,but you are there.

WAY BACK IN THE DAY, like all my mentors growing up used to say to me. I met Cory when DR BUZZARD'S ORIGINAL SAVANNAH BAND was performing at a club I was spinning at. She was stunning to look at. Those retro-40's look that the band used, made her seem like someone right out of a SAM SPADE movie. When she performed, it was like a Pulp Fiction novel!! . I love it, was captivated and hypnotized by the performance. I was, like the TRAMMPS used to sing, "Hooked For Life". When she went solo years later, I was reintroduced to Cory on a Promotional swing through Miami, at the Florida Record Pool. She was classy and very professional. And friendly! Giving me a peck on the cheek as she left. Love her!

The "Cory & Me" LP is a masterpiece! "Green Light" and "Pow Wow" are great Disco tracks. But the rest of the LP is timeless. Her vocal on "Single Again / What Time Does The Balloon Go Up?" takes it out of the pop relm and makes you really listen to the lyric. The entire LP is, in my opinion, on equal footing with the 1st Savannah Band LP.

One of my gigs was at a Roller-Disco, when this LP was released. "Be Bop Betty" & "Keep The Ball Rollin'" were perfect, for roller-disco!!!

It was a crime that Blue Chip / Profile unleashed the Latin Rascals on her '86 release, "City Nights / Manhattan Cafes". They destroyed a perfectly wonderful song, that could've been another hit for Cory.
