Abba's Drummer (b. 1946 - March 17th 2008)
On March 17th, former drummer of ABBA, 62 year-old OLA BRUNKERT crashed through a glass door in his home in SPAIN. The cuts on his face and neck resulted in a loss of blood that took his life. A neighbor found his body with a towel wrapped around his neck. It was obvious that he was trying to go for help, but collapsed in his garden.
Members of ABBA were stunned when they heard the news. BENNY ANDERSON said "it was tragic". BJORN ULVEAUS added that BRUNKERT had been "one of the best". " I remember him as a good friend when we worked together in the mid-1970s. He was a creative musician who contributed a lot when we toured together and worked in the studio."
OLA BRUNKERT and bass player RUTGER GUNNARSSON were the only musicians to appear on all ABBA albums. BRUNKERT first played with ABBA in the early 70's and toured with them in 1977,1979 and 1980. ABBA was one of the most successful bands with over 370 million albums sold. They have not performed together since 1982, but continues to sell nearly 3 million records a year. OLA had lost his wife two years ago.The police ruled his death an accident. May GOD bless.
