Blondie
New Wave artist (b. 1975 to present)
Still touring after so many many years, people forget, that BLONDIE is not and never was a DISCO group. They are in the ROCK N' ROLL HALL OF FAME!
BLONDIE was the lead dog in the pack of New Wave-Punk bands that came out in the seventies, they were as far from DISCO as can be imagined. They were fully NOT DISCO. Then came a song that changed everything. When a TOP OF THEIR GAME punk-rock band like BLONDIE came out with HEART OF GLASS, it gave the DISCO scene a truly legit mainstream band performing a truly legit DISCO song. NOW, DISCO was officially "IN". From now on DISCO would reign supreme, for the next three years DISCO was at its peak.
From late 1976 until late 1979 DISCO was on top, HEART OF GLASS was the recording that put it over the top. I remember every club in NEW YORK CITY packing the floor with HEART OF GLASS and its re-mixes. It was a can't miss song. Played on all the radio stations, crossing every realm and culture to reach number one. Never given the credit it was due, HEART OF GLASS gave DISCO "credibility"! And BLONDIE gave us HEART OF GLASS! As for the group, they have reunited to work today, after illness prevented that for many years. DEBBIE HARRY went on to great success as a SOLOIST. She had a few DISCO/DANCE hits in the eighties, and became an actress as well. But BLONDIE IS BLONDIE because of HEART OF GLASS.
