Ish Ladesma

Disco producer - musician a.k.a. Ish Ledesma (b. October 2nd 1952 - present)

discoIsmael Ladesma was born October 2nd, 1952 somewhere in CUBA. He, like me, came to the United States as a small child to get away from the islands' politics.

Growing up in Miami, Ish Ladesma was influenced by Cuban music, the Motown sound, and the greatest era of Rock N'Roll. Ish landed work in HENRY STONES' studio as a session player. GWEN McCRAES' ROCKIN CHAIR featured ISH on guitar.

Ish Ladesma along with Richie Puente Jr., Charlie Murchiano and Arnold Pasiero in 1976 they formed FOXY. Signed and released on T.K. Records, their first album was Euro-Disco, and did well locally and even some play in JERSEY (funny, that's where I was) and New York. Then a slight change to their style and music preceded 1978's GET OFF!! The Cuban influence now merged with a slightly harder rock sound. It was still DISCO, but it came at you fast and hard, with an IN YOUR FACE sound that added a certain ZIP to FOXY. That translated into a DISCO CLASSIC. GET OFF now really took off. To this day, this DISCO CLASSIC gets you moving, makes you want to get up and dance!

As is the case more often then not, one success leads to a similar sounding follow up. HOT NUMBER wasn't exactly GET OFF, but they were obviously related. So HOT NUMBER, though not as big as GET OFF, also became a DISCO CLASSIC! For FOXY there was one more studio album. It wasn't as good as the first two, but it did have PARTY BOYS, and that was played nightly for months, but never crossed over to the radio. T.K. was somehow losing money, can you say HENRY STONE?

It was that lack of support that spelled the end of FOXY. Ish Ladesma then went solo, and released the self-titled ISH album that featured a hit , DON'T STOP!

That was about it. ISH concentrated on studio work, playing with ABBA, GLORIA ESTEFAN and LATIMORE. His biggest reward and success was when putting together a night club band to make extra money, he produced his wife in a group called COMPANY B. A record was released locally, it got great reviews by THE VYNIL JUNJKIE magazine, and next thing you know, they were signed by ATLANTIC Records, being played on radio, and soon had a huge hit. FASCINATION became a DANCE Classic in 1986, and made ISH a lot of money. He called it "an unexpected treat". Ish continues producing records, and playing his guitar, and MIAMI loves it!!

Ish Ladesmas last name also appears on some TK releases spelled Ish LEdesma.

YOUR COMMENTS ON Ish Ladesma

Where were you when you first heard GET-OFF? I was driving home with my dad in the poor side of town coming from the hospital where we were visiting my mom. I saw everyone outside dancing and really excited so I took control of the car radio dial and switched it over from Fm to Am and low and behold on one of the only two soul stations was FOXY blasting the ultimate jam. That station was called W-O-R-L Studio 13! I too raised the volume and my dad just smiled and started to keep time with his hand on the steering wheel. I lowered the window and joined in the chant: uwa-uwa and the world changed that day as my musical education tipped from rock to a more dance orianted direction!
