Butterfly Records (US) Discography
Butterfly Records was founded by AJ Cervantes in 1977. At its height (1979) Butterfly had a licensing deal with MCA to distribute their releases. At the opening of the 1980s the label was closed down and in the 1990s the catalogue was sold to Rhino Records who has released a few tracks on various compilation CDs.

Feb 16, 10 | 3:37 amAs an aside to the U.S. discography, a number of early Butterfly LPs were issued as early as 1978 by King Records Co. Ltd., Japan. They had identically-styled labels and covers, excepting the record number and the manufacturer's name, which was provided outside the margin of the LP cover near the bottom of the rear panel. They were unique issues for their time given both widespread lack of sophistication in Japan toward the music and established venues/clubs at which to play it. The following represent coloured vinyl comparisons with their U.S. counterparts: GP602(FLY002) hot pink;GP642(FLY004) hot pink;GP599(FLY005)red;GP603(FLY006)blue;GP600(FLY007)white;GP653(FLY009)blue;GP641(FLY010)amber. Others not seen. Sound quality is flawless/superb.

May 09, 05 | 6:35 pmI have the LP of GRAND TOUR -ON SUCH A WINTER"S DAY and it's a great album! My favorite cuts are Flight from Versailes and Grand Tour! This LP is in blue vinyl!

For many years my holy grail was finding a copy of FLY-002 on pink vinyl (I first saw it spinning on a turntable back in '77) and was SORELY disappointed when I went to the record store only to discover it was pressed on black. I finally found the hot pink copy at a thrift store in the Mission District of San Francisco in 1999. It was a very happy day!
