| Hi folks, this last saturday I went in a big fair to hunt vinyl disco & funky and I found a copy of "Willie rap", very hard to find. I meet Giovanni there, he's a really super-expert in disco funky. We passed the whole day together and we made a good hunting, also with another friend of him. Ciao Giovanni, ciao Simone! But when I went back home I started to clean it but I saw a white spot inside a groove. The white colour let me think that it was a foreign object that entered into the groove and so I started to try to remove it first of all by the nail... but it didn't go away. So I took a needle (...oooohhhh... why I did that?) and I started to try to remove but it didn't. I tryed again and.. now there's a small hole in the vinyl. The stylus pass over it without jumping, but I can hear a scratch for 4 rotations, when in the beginning it was just two grooves with the scratch. Question: what can I do now? How can I repare it? How can I fill the hole (if it is possible)? Cheers PS: record price? US$25.00

| Well unfortunatly there is no way to repair that :( . Just for future, what I always do is if it looks like something like that on the vinyl ill play it first and see if anything happens to avoid mistakes like that. And for future reference NEVER take a needle to remove something from within the grooves. Usually what i do with somethng like that is a small bit of water on a very smooth cloth and wipe into it and the dirt stuck in the groove comes right out. Then I proceed to clean the entire record after that and wallla!! Its as good as new :D DJ Jimmy M

| Masdefi: With no ill thoughts whatsoever, thank you for cheering up a dark, wet and windy Thursday morning. Sorry, but I positively laughed out loud when I read your post.   I would suggest that the white object was possibly the remains of a sticky piece of paper used as a cue point for scratching? In that case you'd need something like pure Iso Propyl Alcohol [ Propan-2-Ol (it will help loosen the glue)] and a cotton bud to get into the groove. IPA will not damage the vinyl at all. Once removed, wash in water or a weak IPA/water solution (as per most proprietory record cleaning solutions). Maybe experiment on a useless piece of vinyl first. |
