Default Pitch problems in Acid

When using Acid, if you adjust the bpm's of a song too far it gives the song a weird sound which sounds awful.

Is there any way to prevent this or is there some software that can be used along with Acid to avoid this problem?

I've not used Acid, but it sounds like it's doing digital time-compression to change the length. If that's the case, then there's nothing you can do to fix the artifacts... the fact that it can be done at all is something of a technical wonder.

This is the common problem with "time stretching". Theres actualy no programs around that will do this perfect. Only way to do so is the old pitching down on the turntable or tape deck which of corse..effects the pitch with it.

theoretically (but not so practical or maybe not even digital) there is a solution. Play your file pitched up as per normal turntable faster, pass the audio through external pitch down shifter that is extremely high bitrate/ridiculously high sample rate signal processing...
perhaps the old eventide harmonis(/z)ers... Record.
