Default Recording Vinyl onto a Mac

A couple of years ago, I bought a fairly cheap CD-R deck that plugged into my stereo because I wanted a simple way of recording vinyl onto CD.

Shortly after the warranty expired, it broke.

Now I'm thinking that I would like to try using my second turntable to record vinyl onto my new iMac.

I don't have a mixer anymore, and I know I need some kind of pre-amp. Is there something especially created for this purpose of connecting a turntable to a Mac, and is it any good? If not, what do you recommend?

I have been using iTunes, and am happy with it, but I would like to remove pops from vinyl. What would you recommend for a Mac user and how much will it cost?

Thanks for your help!

Default Vinyl to Mac

Hi
If you can plug your turntable into your music system you could try using one of the outputs to plug into the mic socket of your Mac. You'll probably need a twin mini Phono to phono lead. I then record it using Logic. I tried going straight from the mixer into the Mac but found the sound quality was better going via my hifi. Hope this helps.

A mic input will not do; you need a pre-amp of some sort to apply the necessary equalization unless you have a turntable with one built-in (and the vast majority do not). Also, I would strongly recommend against using Logic for simple two-track recording... that is like driving a car because you want to listen to AM radio. I'm not familiar with Mac apps, but I'm positive that there is something cheaper/easier/more effective. I use Logic myself, but I find it's far easier to do straight-up recording in Cool Edit (which, sadly, is PC-only).
