| A friend reccomended me to use the Roxio soft for writing CDs and use mp3s. In fact, he installed the whole thing in my computer. I normally use Musicmatch to listen to and convert mp3 files, and Easy CD Creator (an old version) for make CDs. He showed me that Roxio has a soft emulating the Easy CD Creator and other very like Musicmatch. My question is: does this work well? No unwanted noise when converting mp3s to wav? No clicks between tracks when using "Classic Creator" (the EZCD clone)? What can Roxio users tell me? Thanx in advance. |

| Well... while waiting for someone to post about his/her experience, I will expose things about Roxio as I discover them. Yesterday I used the Roxio player to make a comparison against Musicmatch (the one I use since one year ago). I found that, unlike Musicmatch or some other players, the "pause" function in Roxio is almost perfect. Musicmatch tends to "eat" 1 or 2 seconds of audio when you press play again; this doesn't happen with Roxio. Also, the delay in between pressing play and hearing the sound is practically undistinguisable (does this word exist? LOL), making these controls the most similar thing to a tradicional tape deck that I found. I tried this playing files in the hard disk and also from a data CD, with the same results. With normal audio CDs the delay is a bit longer, but then this also happened with Musicmatch. Another thing I discovered is that the Roxio has a side program to edit your audio files. Features the track as a sound curve on the screen and you can use select-cut-paste to make edits (there's also a zoom function to make the cuts more precise). I know this kinda soft is not new, but then I didn't have it in other players. So, should I ditch Musicmatch and go ahead with Roxio? And what about EZCD? You can post your opinion. |

| While I haven't used Roxio programs for Windows, I have used Toast on the Mac (OS-9 and OS_X). Toast is a standard on the Mac for burning discs and sometimes comes bundled with Spin Doctor, which lets one edit sound files... It is a great program and I can't recall it ever crashing or giving me any problems. Assuming the Windows version is of the same quality as Mac I say go for it.

| I didn't know Toast was from these same Roxio guys. People at work tell me it's quite good (they use it for data backup). This last weekend I tried my first CD recordings with Roxio and they went OK and fast (I set it to record at 8x, but sometimes it went at, like, the double of that speed). No clicks or noises. Seems it's a keeper! I have some downs with the mp3 player, tough. I can't select a folder to play without deleting the playlist I'm listening to; this means I can't add tracks to my current playlist, have to rebuild it from scratch. I think there must be a way, but couldn't find it yet. Also: it doesn't play Soulseek files currently downloading. Anything that bears the word "incomplete" is skipped on the playlist; if you try it directly, sends a "there is no file" message. Plus, I can't make the window fit my monitor screen (it's too large) and there are no optional skins to use. Nothing terrible, yes, but I don't have this problems with Musicmatch. I tried editing one track with the additional software and it works beautifully (I mean Roxio). This thing has 5 pieces of software: Audiocentral (the mp3 player), Disc Copier (for CDs), Photosuite, DVD Builder, and Creator Classic, which is a clone of Easy CD Creator. Plus the track edit software and another called "Drag to Disc", which clones EZCD's "Direct CD". The photo and DVD parts I'm not using now; the others seem to work well, with those minor problems I mentioned. |
