Default CBR or VBR mp3's

I have tons of vinyl and would like to know which format to transfer it to mp3, cbr or vbr? Also which settings are the best for the transition. Thanks!

If you're serious about sound quality, don't use MP3 at all. Use an uncompressed format like WAV or AIFF.

Having said that, MP3 quality improves with file size, so higher bit-rates=better sound. It's always lossy though.

Ditto on Graham's first remark about MP3s, but if you must go MP3 then use CBR for acoustic or classical music and VBR for pop / dance material. Encode at no less than 192 kbps.

Thanks again guys! After I convert my vinyl I burn it on a cd as a wave file. Then I convert to mp3 just to save space. Once again thanks!

Cuz,

As I see it, your problem is not which format to use but the urgency of doing the needle drops before the asbestos eats through the vynil. Once that happens, no format will be worth hearing. Let me know.

As with most things in life, there is some truth behind it. The man has such a large collection that it would take a warehouse to properly store. Don't we all wish we had this problem.
