Nicky I think I have not all understood from your reply but I can assume you are now fully converted to Cd's, still working anyway with vinyl. But I suppose mixing with cd's is so COLD.....
JussiK I can understand you but we have to open our minds as Giovanni said. Probably in 10 or 20 years our great vinyl collection would be just a sad memories... oohh, let's stop here! But I still buy vinyl.

I just sell my soundlab double cd player with pitch controle that i bought about 15 years ago, don't use them anymore.
i'm now mixen mp3's on my pc and burn them on cd.
using a great program called ATOMIXMP3
You even don't need a headphone anymore.
ATOMIXMP3 do it all for you.
You just load 2 mp3's in atomixmp3, start one mp3 and if you want to mix just hit the button "automix now".
GREAT PROGRAM!!!!!!!

Hi dragon, but you cannot mix if the two songs are not matched also for the 8-beats parts. How do you start with the entering song on the first beat of the 8-beat of the actual? Hope to be clear...

Nick, since you own the CDJ 500 II and still spinning I need to ask you these questions, I know you can slip mix (slam) and hold and release, but can you use the Jog wheel to slow down the CD like you can with a TT platter? Or do you need to use the pitch control only? , I remember on late 80’s model (I never used them) you could not do this, (that’s why many DJ’s didn’t like them) and I’m wondering if this new models give you this ability. By the way, that new 1000 looks cool, but what is the DJ doing? he’s pushing the platter and backtracking at the same time, I guess like somebody mentioned here I need to try them first hand. One last question, would it be a good idea to get a used one? And how much are those going for? Sorry for all the questions.
edit: Is the “slow down” I mentioned the same as “bend the pitch” of a tune ?.

Sure, CDs may be good for running a long consistent rhythm track under the actual vinyl sounds - I expect this is what DJ Dimitri of Paris was doing when spotted using Pioneers along with Technics. Done that meself a couple of times have to confess...But ask him about only using cds and I quarantee you'll get a horrified MAIS NON,QUEL HORREUR! as an immediate answer. Ask anyone from any club scene, anyone that matters, any type of club music, and you'll get the same answer. No self-respecting jock uses cds for actual spinning. You'll never get anyone spinning cds at any prime clubs in London, New York, Paris or Madrid, old skool or avantgardist no matter. Vinyl IS forever, like it or not. True Wild Style reigns eternal, nerdy white boys with faddish technology fade into obscurity...

Ok, I guess I'm a victim of the "clique" too, whatever that is, hahahaha

The CDJ500 available at Ebay sold for 315.00 plus shipping,oh well,I better stick with vinyl.

That's a lot or what! Now, if one gets this thing, what is it one would spin with it? The new Britney Spears or dj mix cds a la Ministry of Sound 2002 vol 4 or Havin' It Ibiza vol 27 -? What kind of club music is available on cd that is actually good for deejaying? When one walks into a quality dj store all one sees is vinyl. Home listening of course is another matter entirely but who'd buy a CDJ500 for that.

Jussik, I don't follow todays "dance" music details as much as I did years ago, but according to what they tell me at my old local DJ record shop (still in business), cd singles are available for almost all the vinyl counterparts. I also visited a South Beach shop called Uncle Sam that has a huge selection of trance Cd singles.

Yes I think quite all good disco tracks are now available on Cds. I went some time ago in the Virgin store in Paris and there is a huge section of dance funky CDs: I saw a lot of CD collection from 78 to 82, in the extended versions. But I still continue to buy vinyl and in any case I avoid to buy collections. Original & vinyl is the best couple!. JussiK believe me, what you need you'll probably find on CDs.

All I need is available on cds..? How about the remixes for the new Paul Van Dyk? Haven't seen those on cd and I seriously doubt I ever will. What's available on cd is pop house, pop dance and pop techno/chill etc sounds - note the word POP here. Nothing emerging, nothing stunning, nothing with club credibility. Dance classics, sure, but often as edited versions. BEST OF BUTTERFLY etc claim to contain full lenght versions - they don't in many cases. For club audiences who demand classy title choices, perfect construction of sets, cool mixing, short versions with no instrumental flipsides just do not work. Say, you're doing a disco night and feel Cerrone's JE SUIS MUSIC would be perfect mutating into Kebekelektrik's WAR DANCE and then you'd gradually work that into Easy Going's BABY I LOVE YOU. No cd for the long version of Easy Going to begin with. Want to make Peter Brown's DO YOU WANNA GET FUNKY WITH ME sound real good by adding some dubby BURNING LOVE BREAKDOWN flip into the groove, and then transforming it into Le Pamplemousse: LE SPANK. Can't do that with cds - BURNING.. is not available nor is the full version of LE SPANK, contrary to the cd info. And how do you perform the tricky but so effective mix of going from the full 12" six minute version of Joe Gibbs TRINIDAD - not the short edit heard on the cds - to breakbeat fave CHOVE CHUVA/MAS QUE NADA by Samba Soul-? Can't do that, either. What you can do is play all the expected classics in the expected way, skipping from one tune into another, with no possibility of actually performing any deejaying as we know it, no instrumental versions for added impact, no choice breaks from cult faves..phew, eyes bulging out of my head now, blood pressure rising better stop, but you know what I mean!

JussiK, I know what you mean. If we talk about gold disco from 76 to 81 and a common way to mix one song into another, I think CD's are enough to do with, as per what the market allows you to get.
Of course if you are talking about creative DJing I agree with you. I don't think you can ever get for example a flip instrumental version of a 12" or specially remixed editions. I don't know what is happening for the actual disco of today's years.
But I think everyone must agree on this: CD's are so cold... !

I'm playing in Big Clubs (1000 t0 2000 people) and i started playing with cd's a year ago combining with Vinyl.. now it's just cd's.
Most dj's look at me as if i got lost and ended up behind the table by accident... you're not really respected as a dj when u play with cd's only, but then when you start playing they become all interested and find out there's soo much more you can do with cd's then you can with vinyl.

I have 2 pioneer 1000 cd players and they r amazing... you can pitch them up 16% and the voice and instruments don't. You can actually play with cd's as if they were vinyl in the exact same way. with the scratching and stuff..:)

hmm...

exactly what i mean...
But i play in Belgiums most trendy club where every Big dj plays (resident are the soulwax dj's.)
The reason i switched to cd's is that i like toi change songs.. Intro's outro's or even parts in the middle..to make them more commercial or better for mixing.. i can't burn them on Vinyl so i burn them on cd...
Now... there's no way going back to Viyl although i LOVE vinyl. a couple of weeks ago i actually didn't even bring vinyl with me to this techno party (8000 people) and the organizer went all nervous..:)
