Saturday Night Fever was put onto one CD in the mid 90's (1996 I think). The CD I have of it I bought in the late 80s and is on 2 CD's and not the best quality for mastering. But yes, these compilations are always gonna be edited versions, its a shame but thats how they do it. Anything with "Greatest Hits" on it your lucky to get a 5 min version of anything cause all are usualy 7" versions.

And as 99.9% of the population aren't DJs.................that probably satisfies them. Five minutes of most records is enough for me, too.

Hey Quinny, I agree on some of those epic long records that dont change too much that a 5 or 6 min edit is good for home listening. However, the full or extended versions are good and best for DJ's as the edits usualy don't have the different types of breaks to mix out on.

You know, I don't know if only 1 out of a 1000 disco "aficionado's" are DJ's? Disco may have a very small following but the people who do collect it are pretty dedicated. Disco is the only music that displays its true art by having it mixed. It's not about just matching bpm, its about contrasting the different moods or styles of each song. It was a true art form. Today, people who enjoy and collect the music will never know what it was like because it is not mixed. And when you hear an oldie in the clubs today it is not done the same way it used to be. :-?

To hear a record gradually creep in during an interesting breaking point in a song or to hear a song cut at just the right time made this music so much more spectacular. Over the past 25 years I have never purchased a second turntable or a mixing board but I have always thought about it. As I'm driving in the car, or at my computer at work I will occasionally think of different tunes that could be mixed together in a unique way.

Linda Clifford's "Don't Give It Up" like many other classics should be listened to in its entirety. On the greatest hits CD its just faded out in the middle of the song, so anybody who remembers it is going to notice and probably be dissappointed.

Oh, DJ Jimmy --- you don't how I hate to hear you say that. And you're not the first one to say it here, either :( . I do hope you mean occasionally mixing out on the breaks. I dont know about today's dj's but in my time, mixing out on the break was considered 'cheating'. Why would you consider cutting away from the most anticipated part of the song? If it didn't get you slapped :x , it most surely got you 'read to filth' by the queens on the dancefloor  .

Mixing the break was an accepted practice every now and then, especially if a song had been around for a while. But most of us were in the habit of pushing the break. This is where you pumped the bass, punched the highs, mixed it twice if it was too short. Played with it but didn't take it out. This is where the dancefloor went crazy. And if I was on that dancefloor and the dj mixed out, I probably would be cursing the loudest. (Been there and better believe, done that! :D )

Actualy I was talkin bout those long long ass tracks that have the breaks repeat like 2 or 3 times within the track. Im one who usualy likes to play a song out to the max as much as posible (when playing live for a dancefloor anyhow, all going apon the reactions is how far you take a track). Also, I usualy mix on midrange rather than breaks for the most part. You've kinda heard me spin before on the now defunked "Disco Extravaganza" show

Yes, I did hear you spin. That's why I was surprised about the 'break-mixing'. When I heard you play I thought, "He's like me, let's it go to the end". Actually, the thought was, "He's like me, wants every inch of it", but that's another story. :D

Well ummm  LOL LOL LOL....every inch of the 12 Id say..but i do mean vinyl  There are some tracks that ya absolutly can not let go to the end though cause you'd kill the dancefloor..one is "Hills Of Katmandu" by Tantra..a really fucked up rave acid trip that goes on too long LOL. For instance with that one I usualy take it from the going out of the first section and play the last 5 mins of it..thats an example of a track that cant be taken to the end..well, unless taken from close to it LOL
