OriginalBigM: No nerves tweaked, but this whole LP vs CD debate does piss me off at times. There's so much mis-information put out by the vinyl freaks.

That turntable does look very interesting. The lasers have a 10,000 hour life expectancy so would last a hell of a long time before servicing was required (consider that my 2 Tascam DA-88 8 track digital recorders cost me the equivalent of $13,000 and heads go about every 1,000 -1,500 hours and cost $1,400 dollars for each machine).

I'm still unconvinced though that vinyl has any useful information beyond 15-16 Khz. I concede that analogue is capable of reproducing harmonics up to 30 KHz maybe 40 KHz, but the microphones used are nearly all going to roll off dramatically before 20Khz. There are exceptions, like certain B&Kmics and the Earthworks mics I have (response 4 Hz - 40 KHz within 0.3 dB), but 99.0% of recording engineers don't use these. So, where does that leave the debate? That you can hear harmonics of frequencies that haven't been picked up in the first place, therefore analogue (vinyl) has a more open sound???? Hmmm.

I'm not sure but I did read somewhere that even though we may not hear the actual higher frequencies they do effect the timbre of instruments which we can hear.Sorry but I,m not up with the in depth physics of sound.

Graham: CD-4 encoded LPs are common? Thought not!!!! and it still remains that harmonics that are not recorded in the first place, can't be reproduced even on a CD-4 LP.
BTW: Left/right separtion 45dB?, front/back 20 dB?....BIG DEAL!!
