| i honestly wouldnt bother mp3 compress sound thats why they are convenient generally they stay under 10 mb mp3s take little chunks of sound out of the original file so instead of: ------------------ you get something like - - - - - - - - - - - which your average punter doesnt notice however to someone who is into vinyl this is very noticeable to me mp3s sound like they are in a small tin box which when you are using cheap headphones doesn't really matter cds can also have a metallic quality but quality is generally far better i imagine if you slow down an mp3 too much these gaps would become noticeable and the sound quality unbearable having said that i think those pioneer DJM things play mp3s so maybe you can slow it down on that but im not sure how it would sound, perhaps they somehow smooth the sound but im not sure since ive never bothered to learn to use it. if you have the wave file, cd, or better still the original vinyl, slow it down using pitch control (on a turntable) and then compress it, would probably be your best option |

| KRS4, You will most likely have to convert it to the WAV format first. With Sony Acid or Ableton Live you can do it in two ways: Pitch shifting Using this method will change to the tonal balance of the song. Time stretching The time stretching keeps the tonal balance but there is a limit to the change you can impose. The artifacts are noticeable in this extreme example. You can usually achieve decent results by changing it gradually (in two or three passes). There might be other software available which can achieve the same job but I am not familiar with all of them. Both listed software have a trial version that you can use for some time without restrictions. Finally, there are also some plugins to Winamp to do the same thing but it is non destructive (the modification to the sound won't be permanently applied to the file. The workaround consists in re-recording the song as it is played by Winamp. It goes without saying that there will be a loss in audio quality.
