Default making long mp3 files

Is there a program out there that will allow you the make very large mp3 files? I have Wavelab, Cool Edit Pro and Mix Meister and none will allow me to make a file longer than two and a quarter hours. I have some tapes from DJs that are in total about 8 hrs and I'd love to string them together to get the full effect of the whole evening at the club.

Best thing I would do is save the files as regular uncompressed audio (.aif/.wav...) and then import them into iTunes and then convert to .mp3. Hope that helps.

I would have suggested you make sure your PC has sufficient disc space and memory. I can't imagine why there would be an arbitrary limit to any file size.

oldskooldj,

I have enough disk space at least 60 gigs free and I have 1 gig of memory. It's the programs themeselves that I have that would allow me to make a mp3 file larger than 2 hours. I'm using wavelab mainly but also have cool edit pro and mix meister pro.

So JOL, why do you want to make a non-stop two hour long MP3 file of a mix tape with out 'track' separations or marks ?

Is it because the IPOP and other MP3 players still don't play without gaps between the files ???

Just as an aside, the 5th generation video iPods can now do gapless playback. Having said that, it's rather surprising that it took Apple over 5 years to implement this rather basic feature.

Graham,
That's good news. I still don't understand why any of these big companies haven't figured out a way to insert track markers into a mp3 file to separate one song from another on a mixed filie.

Good to know , thanks for the info Graham

I don't have an IPOD/MP3 player yet, (except for the limited one in my cell phone) but probably will pick up one in the future after I replace my car and pick up one of those new Head Units with IPOD integrated control, is nice to have all the music at hand without keeping all those hard to find and expensive CDs in the car.

I guess now that IPOD's software allows gapless play one can split and mark the mix tape's Wav files and then convert each one to Mp3/AAC, create the appropriate play list in the correct order and play back non stop like the original tape did but with the functionality of CD. Cool

Just as a warning though... supposedly it's only the 5G video (i.e. hard-disk-based) models that allow this. The nanos and shuffles still can't -- mind you, I've never owned a nano or a shuffle, so I'm just repeating what I've read elsewhere... and we all know how accurate the internet can be when it comes to that.

A friend of mine does mix podcasts and uses the "chapter" feature, which is supported on most iPods. There are only two problems that that approach. The first is that the music only appears in the podcast list and not in the music library. The second is that I believe that the only software that allows you to create chaptered podcasts is Mac-only (I know it used to be this way back when I was on Windows, it may have changed now).
