Default Know of a "virtual"/desktop mixer?

I'm new here, and I just read the thread about remixing software, which was nicely informative. What I'm looking for is an app that will allow me to mix mp3's, like a "virtual" Urei or something. I can't quite figure out how it would work, as far as cueing and recording (worst case scenario is it would be like a real old school mixer: if you screw up a mix an hour into recording, start over). Does anyone know of one?

A friend of mine uses Native Instruments' Traktor, with good results.

Here is another piece of software you might find useful.

Ots Labs: OtsTurntables - Virtual Turntables MP3 Mixer

now THAT seems interesting to me. I've DLed the free version and read the quick start manual and I'm looking forward to playing around with it. I haven't figured out how to make "cue" come thru headphones while output comes thru speakers, but hopefully that'll come with messing around. Thanks.

Before you get to friendly with Ots try VirtualDJ (VIRTUAL DJ SOFTWARE - MP3 Mixing Software - So powerfull and yet so easy mix software!).

It's very wide spread among DJ:s, at least in Europe

What about MixMeister? Anyone got any thoughts on this? I had a look at this online and this seemed to be the easiest to use and understand of all of the mp3 mixer's I found info on.

I've not heard of it; does it allow you to cue (monitor) and record? The free version of OTS doesn't allow cueing or recording, which makes it pretty useless. I've thought about buying a used Denon and mixer, then burning my mp3s to CD, but I do have a little bit of a life......

I been using PCDJ now for a while and seem now to have the hang of mixing a lot of tracks without the need to monitor via headphones. But I have been looking for a decent solution so as I can record and put together some stuff.

Been using the virtual dj for a couple of days now (downloaded full version). It's a bit fiddly but I seem to have the hang of it. Also tried the free version of OTS and while it looks good, the limitations make it impractical.

FD, which PCDJ product did you DL(Reflex, FX, etc.)? and are you still making mixes without first cueing in headphones? mixing mp3-type files, that is, right?

I use VirtualDJ and I can cue (listen to one track in headphones while playing the other through the speakers). I have used it with a soundblaster before and now I use a M-Audio Firewire Audiophile soundcard.

Due to limitations in the way my system is set up, I am making mixes without headphones (I need new ones). I have to sort out an issue with the soundcard. I have the onboard one disabled at present as well as a small problem with the card I added. All to be sorted when I do a bit of maintenance over the weekend.

Yep, I am using mp3s. Takes a lot of practice when I have to remember the time I need to cue up a track. It can be done though.

Not sure exactly which version I been using. But it's quite an old one now so may no longer be available. I'm on the lookout for an update though. I got it free a while back now.

I tell Ya guys,

The reference thing is Native Instruments – Traktor D.J.

You can give it a test drive at: http://www.native-instruments.com/index.php?id=traktor32 where there is a possibility to download a fully working demo (with user’s manual).

Yes, the full prog. is a hit on the wallet @ $229USD but to me, it is THE toy.

p.s.: I don’t have any shares in this company. I just like the thinking behind this software.
