CD burning

I am entering now in this, I've got a problem. In the list of all tracks taken from the net, not all have the same recording level. How to level it quite same for all???? when burning in the CD?

The short answer is load them into an audio editor like Cool Edit or Goldwave, boost the volume, and normalize them. But the answer to this isn't as simple as it might seem. You will encounter cases where a track already reaches the peak level, yet it still sounds quieter than others that don't. The reason for this is that some music is more compressed than others (note: when I say "compressed", I am talking about dynamics and not file size). Music done in the last few years tends to be *very* compressed, as is older music that's been reissued on compilation CDs or DJ mixes. Here you've got to let your ears guide you and choose between compressing the quieter tracks (assuming your audio editor allows this) or lowering the volume on the louder ones. Actually, compression/Limiting is an art and a science in itself... but that's a subject for another forum entirely.



Ironically, despite the greater dynamic range of digital formats, dynamics have turned out to be one of the casualties of the rise of digital audio.

thank you for your answer. Actually I got Goldwave installed. If I understand well I could lower or increase the recording level of a mp3 file by using this S/W, but how? Do you know this feature?

Sorry for taking so long to answer -- I somehow missed this one! Anyway, I don't use Goldwave myself, so I can't give you exact instructions... there must be something in there that allows you to increase amplitude, normalize, or maybe even compression/limiting.
