This is what I did for CD storage, but it should work for cassettes (and even DVD’s) too. Went over to Wal-Mart and picked up some of those cheap wood CD boxes, as many as one needs according to design and/or chosen wall space (10 units in my case), after measuring the size needed to accommodate all the boxes go over to Home depot (or local mill) and pick up and cut to size a piece of 3/8 inch plywood and paint it (or spray) to your taste, In my case I covered and stapled over the plywood (stretched and stapled in the back) some left over black Felt material available by the yard in places like Jo-Ann fabrics (just like DJ pads), then lined up and nailed the boxes’ bottom strips to the plywood using black carpet nails (four nails per compartment to be on the safe side), I also had some left over varnishing clear paint ( and extra time) and re-painted over all the CD boxes before nailing to make them look nicer (and match the molding), then installed edge molding painted with same varnish, (again from Home Depot) cut and mitered to fit and line up all around the plywood’s edge making it look like a picture frame, then all is left to do is to fasten down the completed contraction in your chosen spot with wall anchors ( four) directly through the plywood (not the CD boxes strips they will split!) or screw it directly into wall studs (better). Check wood quality of boxes, I had some previously bought ones from a different batch that used stronger wood strips, on the last batch some of the wood strips used were very flimsy (Walt Mart The whole thing worked like a charm, with plenty of space to spare. Last edited by Mixmachine; July 9th, 2006 at 11:17 AM. |
