strange experiences making compililation CDs

am I the only person having strange experiences attempting to make compilation CDs for personal use? I'm using the "Roxio Easy CD Creator" and several times now I've discovered that the CD burner simply will NOT record certain tracks (even though I point and click very carefully). The entire system either shuts down or records a track that I had not requested. In one case I discovered the problem was that certian tracks were listed incorrectly on the CD's tracks listing, but in other cases there WAS no explanation, and I wondered if some CDs are released with copyright protection on only individual tracks. If anyone has any ideas I'd sure appreciate them. I can always burn an entire CD with no problem, but individual tracks are giving me trouble. Thanks.

If you can burn a whole CD without problem it's obviously not an embedded copyright device that's causing the trouble. Sounds like a software problem, pure and simple.

Where are you located? Copy-protected CDs in the US are rare. Elsewhere in the world, EMI has put on a lame copy-protection scheme on most discs released in the last 2 years, but it's easy to get around. The quickly-withdrawn Sony BMG one was much nastier. Generally, what these discs do is prevent you from getting a good rip, usually giving you garbled results.

I find it's best to rip the discs with the free and fantastic Exact Audio Copy and then use whatever app for burning the discs.
