Default Problems with an old Mac

Ahhh... This week my old and dear Macintosh Classic II is showing serious fatal signs. Now it doesn't bong at startup, and the screen is rather black or showing some black & white vertical stripes. The hard disk seems to be running, though.

Looking in the web I found the stripes thing is pretty common (called "simasiMac") and tends to be related to leaking capacitors which cause shortcircuits on the motherboard. Some guys recommend taking out the motherboard and passing it through a dishwasher! :o Apparently it works to take out any traces of leaking without actually damaging the board.

Anyway, before trying that "final" solution I want to try connecting my machine to another Mac to see if I can access the hard disk. I don't know if this is possible really... I know this is not a computer forum, but any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Here are some pics (including the back slots) and all technical data about my baby:

Best way is probably to use a crossover ethernet cable between the two computers. Any computer shop can help you out with this.

Thanks Bernie. Should I put it in the slot marked with a phone receiver?

Sorry Nano, I don't see an ethernet port on your Mac. Ethernet looks like an oversized telephone jack. Looks like you'll have to take your hard drive out, which is a SCSI interface, and install it inside another computer that can handle SCSI. Many newer Mac computers may not as they are set up for IDE, SATA or Firewire. Good luck!
