I know there are reissues of reggae collectors on vinyl, just like the original singles, with the same label. It should be a good idea for disco fans to find those lost singles and 12" again on the market. I know about some reissues on Unidisc and in one serie of singles called "collectors" or "soul collector" may be from the eighties, but they did not keep the design of the label.
Do you think in this time is a good business for records companys to make the original vinyls of the disco era or I am dreaming.

those 'white label" re-issues are usually bootlegs, the quality is not the same as the originals.

I do not like re-issues. I just buy only original records, if you are not in hurry you'll get what you are looking for.
I have found a lot of stuff through the Internet, and some others in the fairs.

I prefer the original pressing too, I use to buy in internet, but the problem sometimes is the price of some records and the different record stores who have the items. If I buy from the states to different shops, the mail to Europe is more expensive than the records.
IŽll keep searching.

With reissue 12"s the only problem is sometimes they are edited from the original 12". Like for instance the reissue of "Supernature" by Cerrone 12" was a murder job, BIG TIME, badly done too. Also, "Over And Over" by Disco Circus. One thing I aint sure of that maybe someone could help with..well, the hell with it, it's kind of another subject on this one so ill make a seperate post about it..lol

Agreed.

I was very dispappointed with a UK reissue of GQ's Disco Nights I picked up, as I think it was only the LP version put out on a reissured 12", and not the original 12" disco mix. I'm still looking for that one...

I have the original 12" Disco Mix of GQ on a CD compilation from the UK called "Disco Mastercuts Vol. 1", I dont have it on vinyl as it was a promo only release and this one i have never been able to track down. But, if you just want the track itself and doesnt matter what format its in, see if this disc is still in print and you'll have it if it is.

The version of Disco Nights I'm after is the one that has two percussion breaks. My version on this reissued 12" has only one percussion break ...

I have seen vinyl reissues of certain soul/funk LPs on "18lb superior vinyl" eg Parliament, Earth Wind and Fire and Marvin Gaye. They come with a premium price.

Has anybody bought any of these particular vinyl reissues, and are they worth the extra money?

Jazz,

I haven't bought any of the 180 gram reissues, but I do have some original CBS "Half-Speed Mastered" albums and they truly are much better. They have less noise and are far more open and realistic than their standard counterparts. Off the top of my head I have
  • Earth Wind & Fire - "1 AM"
  • Michael Jackson - Thriller
  • Boz Scaggs - Silk Degrees
If you come across any of them do grab them. Highly recommended.

I thank you very much your help, Dusty Groove is one of my favourite record shops, but I donŽt know the others, IŽll see soon what I can find. Disco nights is a great disco song, I have it on a vinyl compilation, but is not the long version. I like the keyboard play.
