I was just wondering where did the term Jack come from? Its on sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo many house records from the late 80's. I just heard it on Culture Beat - I like you which I just dug out from 1990.

"Jack" can mean various things!

But "Jack the house" was a description for the way of dancing the kids used to do in Chicago's "The Warehouse" where House was born.

When that disco started it didn't have so much records, so the DJ's had to be very creative with the ones they had.

They began to rework all the discorecords they had. They "Jacked" the records and the rest is history

:D

My understanding was that the term Jacking, used to describe the dancing to Chicago House, was also a reference to, er, self-pleasure!

You've only gotta listen to Hercules - 7 Ways To Jack for it all to make sense ;)

Default jack your body

Definately a dance thing. If you caught the History of house series on tv it was explained on there. Basically its a bit like a horny dog (sh*g anything) where you were simulating sex normally while dancing with a male /female or even against pillars etc.

The term jack is often refferred to and as the sound the Roland Tr-909 Drum machine is often used to create, especially throughout the techno circles, when the sounds are distorted slightly, i suppose its that "bouncing" type sound you get from the kick, toms and claps

geek out!

In the beginning, there was Jack, and Jack had a groove, and from this groove came the groove of all grooves. And while one day viciously throwing down on his box, Jack boldly declared, Let there be House, and House music was born. I am, you see, I am the creator, and this is my House, and in my House there is not only House music but Techno. But I am not so selfish, because once you've entered my House, it then becomes our House and our Techno music... and you see no one man owns Techno because Techno is a universal language spoke and understood by all. You see, Techno is a feeling that no one can understand really, unless you're deep into the vibe of Techno. Techno is an uncontrolable desire to Jack your body and as I told ya before this is our house, and our music and every house you understand there is a keeper and in this house the keeper is Jack. Now some of you might wonder, who is Jack, and what is it that Jack does? Jack is the one who gives you the power to Jack your body. Jack is the one who gives you the power to do the snake. Jack is the one who give you the key to the wiggly worm. Jack is the one who learns you how you walk your body Jack is the one that can bring nations and nations of all Jackers together under one roof! You may be black, you may be white, you may be Jew, or Gentile, it don't make a difference in our house, and this is fresh!
