I'm a big fan (in a guilty pleasure sort of way) of Jim Steinman and his over the to, bombastic rock. He's often sorta flirted with dance/disco music, and while nothing in the late 70s heyday (when his only major work was the Bat Out of Hell album) qualifies some of his later stuff does IMHO. Bonnie Tyler's I Need a Hero is the most obvious example but his production fo a dance cover of her Band of Gold would work in a club as does her underated Rebel Without a Clue by him. For the film Streets of Fire he did two over the top songs with studio band Fire Inc (created for the songs) and both have very driving BPMs--Nowhere Fat and the absolutely superb Tonight is What It Means to Be Young. He created a girl group called Pandora's Box in 1989 who flopped but he recycled many fot heir songs later (Celien Dion did their first single All Comign Back to Me) one song that Meat Loaf later covered, but the Pandora's version is much more dancey and is a fave of mine is Good Girls Go to Heaven (but the bad go everywhere).

Boz Scaggs' reggaeish "Love Me Tomorrow" has a wicked disco hi hat, and how about Mi-Sex's "Computer Games"?

I've championed this track before...you gotta listen to it...

"Do You Remember When" by the J.Geils Band...1983 (Freeze-Frame LP)

new wavey vocals with the most glorious, string-laden backing I've ever heard on a "rock" song...(think Ian Dury in a Philly production)...shouldn't work but it does!
