| I would say just the opposite of Maarten--Hip-hop is the generic Urban music term that encompasses Rap (Jay-Z) AND Modern R&B (Mary J. Blige). Therefore, rappers & singers are all considered Hip-hop, if they use the modern urban beats and production techniques. At least that's the way I understand it.
