I don't want to sound ignorant, but are rap and hip-hop the same thing or are they two different musical styles?

Please explain.

I am not an authority at all - far from it. But I think that rap is a 'group name' or 'genre name' if you like. Hip-Hop is rapping to R&B like music. I think...

I would say just the opposite of Maarten--Hip-hop is the generic Urban music term that encompasses Rap (Jay-Z) AND Modern R&B (Mary J. Blige).

Therefore, rappers & singers are all considered Hip-hop, if they use the modern urban beats and production techniques.

At least that's the way I understand it.

Well there you go... as said, I am not an authority at all. Although I do have some rap songs... if you call them songs, that is. Perhaps they are actually hip-hop... oh well...

PS Marky... a Diamond Member. We're not worthy! I wonder what is the next level up...
