Does anyone know what's on the different editions for the new Pet Shop Boys "Release?"

First, there's "Release." Then, there's "Release (Limited Edition)". I also read where the U.S. edition of "Release" will have a bonus disc. Help! It's too confusing!

Does anyone have the definitive information on the various editions of "Release?" Thank you!

Have you tried http://www.petshopboys.co.uk ?

From what I gather, in the UK and Canada, the limited edition will just be fancy packaging with no extra tracks (similar to how the Nightlife CD was done). Except this time they're doing the "put it out in 4 different colours" trick, so the hardcore fanatics will buy it 5 times (1 of each limited, and the regular). It will be available on April 2.

The US version will have an extra enhanced CD with lots of bonus tracks, but will come out a bit later on April 26 (again, very similar to how Nightlife was marketed in the States). Don't know if they'll do it with the fancy case in 4 different colours, but who really cares?

I've ordered the CD/DVD singles from http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/.../discomusiccom ... I'll pick up the CD when it gets released here next week, and I'll probably go for the US limited when it comes out.

Bottom line: If you absolutely cannot wait for this album, order it from Canada. Otherwise, just pick up the limited edition in a few weeks.

I guess you have a code-free DVD player in order to play the UK Pet Shop Boys DVD, since it's a different region?

Also, thank you for the link. I didn't know it existed. It is very helpful and clears things up. I'll wait for the U.S. 2-CD release.

The disc is not region-coded, but it is in PAL format. If your DVD player can convert PAL to NTSC, it should work.

I'm just getting it to have it (I pull out all the stops when it comes to collecting PSB stuff).

I am also a huge fan/collector of Pet Shop Boys. To me, since the death of disco in the early 80's, it took a while to appear something as good. When West End Girls came out (on EMI) I immediatly bought the 12", which led me to the album Please. The interesting thing is that I love them more and more with each release. My admiration just doesn't go down.

There are similar bands, like for instance, New Order which began earlier then PSB, but are nowhere near to Tennant & Lowe.

It has been advertised in some web pages that the new album is rock oriented. They are using 2 guitar players, one of them being JOHNNY MARR from THE SMITHS, who already had been in previous albums. I am a little aprehensive about it. I haven't heard yet HOME AND DRY. Have you ? What does it sound like?

I have not been too impressed with the 2 tracks I heard from the new album. They were the featured artist of the week on Inter FM, the only English/Japanese pop station here in Tokyo.

I think they played the new single (ho-hum) and a very depressing medium speed album track. I was really hoping for more of the "New York City Boy" or "I don't know what you want..." stuff. Throw in more of Vincent Montana. Have more production work done by Def Mix (David Morales, Frankie Knuckles).

I will go and listen to the entire album if I have time. But so far... I fear that it's less disco and more electronics this time.

P.S. One of the best Pet Shop Boys tracks that ever came out (IMO) but under a different 'brand' is "Getting away with it" by Electronic. Still love that song.

I've only heard the first single, "Home And Dry". Not bad, but not one of their better songs. The song structure is more rock-oriented, but there are still a lot of electronics.

Unfortunately, one can't blame PSB for changing musical direction. Their last two albums were flops. Okay, "New York City Boy" was a club hit in the US, but it died a quick death the UK.

Sadly, it comes as no surprise to me that the point at which they stopped having consistent chart success (1990) is the point where they really started to put out decent material.
