| I don't really follow the new stuff anymore--BEEN BURNED TOO MANY TIMES!!! & I WON'T GET FOOLED AGAIN!!! (til the next time) However, I'm a fan of DJ SPINNA (& Bobbito, sometimes partner) and his oldies mixes ( several on Stevie Wonder, Strange Games & Things, etc.) He picks wonderful old stuff and makes it flow beautifully... I just listened to this : (from AMG) : In addition, Spinna mixed an album for BBE, Strange Games and Things (2001), that creatively compiles an eccentric blend of old-school tracks such as Eddie Kendricks' "Girl You Need a Change of Mind," Rick James' "Mary Jane," and Donald Byrd's "Wind Parade." English label BBE started the Strange Games and Things series, and it became their most popular sets. The mixed portions of this set were previously sold separately. This three-CD set compiles one mix CD with a generous two full CDs of the tracks in their original form. At the time of this release, no American company would ever think to offer something so substantial without tons of filler and the same tracks making an uncalled-for appearance. While the songs here are great, the star of the show is Brooklyn, NY, producer/remixer DJ Spinna. This set not only shows off his turntable prowess, but the Rain Man-like recall of the rare mostly '70s to '80s r&b/jazz songs that are mostly mid-tempo and sensual. The best remixing comes when the integrity of the original is not tampered with. It also helps to keep the changes daring while retaining the essence of what made a song special. These are lessons DJ Spinna has no trouble with on Strange Games and Things. What makes DJ Spinna stick out is his quirkiness and great ear. Dee Dee Sharp's "Easy Money" leads into Johnny Bristol's "If I Can't Stop You" so well it's humorous. What he does to Eddie Kendricks' "Girl You Need a Change of Mind" and Donald Byrd's "Wind Parade" is nothing short of amazing. Strange Games and Things is an all but perfect set featuring classic, hard-to find tracks and DJ Spinna's deft and definitive skills. Tracks Title Performer Time 1
