Default Ricky Martin "Relight My Fire"

Has anyone heard Ricky's remake of "Relight My Fire"?

It sounds like they sampled Loleatta Holloway's vocals right off the original song.

Yes heard it yesterday. Sounds like Loleatta Holloway has resung her backing vocals. They're not the original ones.

Default Relight My Fire

I wasn't impressed with the remake of "Relight My Fire"!

Keep the Fire Burnin' - Dan Hartman & Loleatta Holloway was the best version remake from its original version.

heard it about 3 monthes ago when i was spinning at the gold coast bar in west hollywood,ca.dj michael wolf played it then.the music was identical to the original.by keeping the same was tactful of them but it didn't show any effort or thought.and ricky sounded like he was singing it in his sleep.i'm still not sure if it had a legit release.

Needless to say I didn't expect much when I found out that Ricky Martin was doing this remake.

However, I kinda like the Hex Hector mix of the song and really think Ricky could have done a lot worse than he actually did.

There have been so many remakes of this track; dont know why they bother 'cos you'll never improve on the original. The best efforts IMO are Cafe Society's version from '84 & Take That/Joey Negro's version from '93. There really should be a 'preservation order' put on classic disco records so nobody can ever touch 'em!

While agree with your suggestion.I think there maybe an underlying benefit to todays so called artists rehashing some of the classics as it would probably tweak the new generation's interest in seeking out the sound of the original and fully appreciate how good the originals were.

I had a lot of fun doing a remake of this when I was working on the Motor City reunion projects. I had Chuck Jackson subbing for Dan and Vermettya Royster of Sisters Love [MoWest artists -- "Give me your Love"] subbing for Loleatta. Ian Levine mimicked the music exactly but we tried to have fun with the leads and the backgrounds [arranged by Charlotte Crossley and performed by Charlotte, Scherrie Payne and Phyllis Rhodes (St. Tropez)]. It's probably on one of the many Hot Productions reissues of the Motor City stuff, but we originally had it on 12" in the U.K. Chuck Jackson was a WONDERFUL vocalist to work with. A pleasure. He did his vocals with me in NY while I prepared the rest in LA. Great fun. 8-)
