Grant Nelson: "Feel The Music/The Sound", good remix of the Dayton track"The Sound Of Music" with additional vocals. Nelson did a good job. It is on Swing City Rec.

Default disco never died.

It just became less popular. It's an apt comparison - the Village People and the Backstreet Boys! It seems at first anyway, that "disco" was just a deep funk sound, that slowly became more lush and very strings-oriented. And while there aren't as many people making disco music with full orchestras and a lot of session musicians anymore....I think there is TONS of new electronic music that's influenced by the more electronic sounding disco and italo of the 70s/80s....new artists like I-f, Parallax Corp, Metro Area, Danny Wang, Catnip, Macho Cat Garage, etc owe a huge debt to the Moroders and Cowleys and Robotnicks....

This might be the appropiate thread for me to mention this outstanding soulful house track I just got a hold of:

Barbara Mendes - Got To Be In Love (Main Mix).

I advise all lovers of good contemporary dance music to check out this cut. It really doesn't get better than this :)

Missed this thread earlier but it's never too late for an opinion.I might be irking a few fans of the genre but I attribute the demise of the 70's style of disco with the lush orchestration being hastened by the prevalence of electropop and europop.I got my fix from the lush orchestration and arrangements and the melodys that just gave you that good inside feeling. We all could be lifted and moved by the dynamics of the production. And yes there was some commendable electropop/disco but on the whole I found it to be rather uninspiring and devoid of feeling.Rather sterile if you know what I mean.I think initially we marvelled at the sound because it was so clean and it was digital and sounded rather pure. The mega systems of the day could do it justice but for me the novelty wore off as it did with others.I really miss the Phiily sound ,Salsoul Orchestra,Barry White,Motown, the various disco acts of the 70's.Just ask yourself if there were two concerts being performed on the same day and same time One was The Trammps and the other Giorgio Moroder.Which one would you cough up the money for?
Creativity and artistry died when computers started generating songs.

I couldn't agree with you more in your assessment.
Give me Barry White, Vince Montana Jr., Alec Costandinos,
Maurice White, Nile Rodgers, etc. etc. any day!!!

I miss 'em terribly and I guess that's one reason why I own so much of their music. Going out dancing tonight, I contribute to the playlist and tonight it will contain some
Tavares, Costandinos (Romeo & Juliet :D ) and KC and The Sunshine Band :D

Default Discofied!

Well as a newbie I'm going to be replaying to many older post here :P

I agree that some new songs are very discofied. Why would'n they be? Most house songs are built from samples from killer disco dance hits. And the the house music itself ows everything to disco.

Yet there is something good around. I'm gratefull for the songs mentioned earlier in this thread. I will check those asap.

And though not at all a lover of house music I mentioned few songs that in me coused similiar good feelings as those seventies gemms.

Stereopol: Dancing Tonight (does this contain samples?)
Bootsy Collins: Come play with Bootsy
The Supermen Lovers: Starlight (2002)
David Quetta: It's Allright
Bob Sinclar: The Beat Goes On
And the new album from Cerrone

But of course you can't fake the feeling - the beat goes on and the decades pass, but it's good that all that joy de vivre of disco is not all gone. And yes, I also think it is coming back more strongly than five years ago or so.

Default The Disco Sound of 2003!

Hi all :D
I must say that when the Filtered Disco/Disco House trend appeared, i loved it...To a guy that was too young to go to Discos in the 1975/1984 period ( i started going out at night in 1991...), when that trend arrived in full force, for me it was a way of living that 70´s Disco Vibe, and it made me trying to search the songs they were sampling...It´s my favorite House style, along with Deep House and the New Electro Stuff...
