Default Dimitri from Paris set

Dimitri from Paris has done a 2 hours set in the Rex Club in Paris and it was a little bit disappointing .... This man seems to absolutely not carry about the audience ... he plays what he llikes and he's happy .... sometimes this can be fantastic parties ...

but when he's in a bad mood .....:)

His "deluxe house of funk" and "night at the playboy mansion" first mix album was really good but the second one was pants.

He seems to be very inconsistent.
He also did a dead good disco mix album with a guy wearing swimming trunks on the cover.
His live sets disappoint generally though.

Love the tracks on his first playboy mansion comp and an essential mix he did in 1996 (I think) but the fella can`t beat mix at all :-?

Default Dimitri from Paris set

In the summer of 2000 Dimitri went to Portugal, and he played at Lux (the best nightclub in Lisbon) and i just loved his set...the third tune he played was Ashford & Simpsonīs Found A Cure...he played lots of good stuff and he was technically good. The moment of his set that i most cherish is when he played Thelma Houstonīs Iīm Here Again...i almost went to tears (i was in love at the time...).Damn, that was one of the best nights of my life...he never went back to Portugal again tough...I would realy like to hear him again...

Dimitri also played in Jakarta last december. He opened the set with Found a Cure.
He played many popular songs like Thinking of you, I'm coming out, get get down, Gypsy woman, relight my fire, just one kiss.......as well as many other unknown tunes.

But my personal favorit moment is when he played Never Enough

last time I heard him play he was in a strange mood and played weird and electronic sounds... people were not dancing but he didn't really care....
then he put on BOHANNON Let's start the dance II and the dancefloor boosted
That Bohannon stuff is the most powerful floorfiller I have ever known, and it ALWAYS works!!!! even after 25 years

Dimitri played 3 hour set here yesterday at the biggest and one of the finest clubs in town. He playd the Found a Cure track mentioned above, but not in the beginnig but after some 30 - 45 minutes. I must admit that I didn't recocgnise most of the songs :o At one point he played only seventies or heavily 70's styled stuff for over 30 minutes in a roll, FC track was kind of a higlight of this.

He also playd several samba/tribal house (?) tracks in a row making the full packed club shake and swet as the temparature kept rising. The dancefloor was more than full from the very beginning, the audience was well warmed up by local dj's.

We had just critizied the lights arrangements when something remarkable happened. Allthough the club has remarkable lightning arsenal and there was a (local?) guy controlling them, the effects were not well figured to the music or athmosphere. However after some two hours of playing Monsieur Dimitri unleashed the beast as the more than familiar sounds of I Feel Love/P.C. MegaMix began to shake the air, yes the volume has risen very high indeed, way way beyond the legal limits I'd say! Obviously the light jockey finally cought up and we saw some serious strobo effects! (The club is about 7 meters high and the whole roof is layered with very efficient strobos). Dimitri mixed the song so that it was almost all instrumental, making those psychedelic synth sounds of Patrick Cowley last and last. Those synths, that song, the lights and the fact that you could truly feel the music in your body, the sound preassure in your chest and nose!! That was magic. And the clubbers, well we just just danced and whistled and danced our asses off. We had to leave some 30 minutes before the end becouse the Monday morning was getting too close. But after the I Feel love I was quite ready to leave, I got my catharsis :D Reportedly he played Never Enough, some Jamiroquai track and Relight My Fire during the last 30 - 40 minutes. And yes, he playd a lot (if not all) from cds...

But really, besides Dimitri, what an experience to hear Disco at very high volume from a big high standard club system! Now I understand something more, one really has to feel it! To just hear it is never enough.

At this event Dimitri's mixing was absolutely flawless and songs were hot. Most of the people were in their early twenties and were really into the music. The music playd was nothing like from the cd-comps Dimitri has put out. It was more energetic, more up tempo. Oh, and some version of Give Me love with accapellas was played! :P

Big fan of his, but more of what he tries to do than what he actually does.

Ever since he put out the Playboy mansion CD, a good half the tracks he plays come from compilations he's made. Try track down his 1997 Essential Mix that kicks off with Atmosfear - Dancing in Outer Space before he felt like he had to play "Talkin All That Jazz" every time he leaves the house.

That said though, he's still capable of some gold. His set up in Sydney for NYE a couple years back he dropped DJ Kool - Let Me Clear My Throat, and the crowd went fully sick, mate. It would just be nice to hear him really play right through his massive box and not just please the puppets who've bought his CDs.

Well it could be that most came from the cd comps on his Helsinki night too then. :o I'm only familiar with the Mixmag, 1st Playboy cd and Disco Forever. I'm not a big friend of mixed comps. But the music was good as was the feeling during and after the gig, so I'm happy :D

dimitri?

i understand his sets are choreographed mainly using re-edited mixes to allow ease of mixing, but I've not heard him do a set before in person

Default Surprising!

To think, I have the Playboy Mansion compilations and some from the Defected Label; As per your comments, I'm surprised to hear that Dimitri from Paris wasn't as good as advertised! I would love to hear him when he comes to New York City and review his set for myself.
