| Some time ago I bought one volume of this series called "Just can't get enough: New Wave hits of the 80's" with a male torso dressed with suit, tie and pins in the front cover. I picked it up basically for Oxo's "Whirly girl" and Greg Kihn's "Jeopardy", but found out the rest of the album were fairly poor cuts (including a short version of Thomas Dolby's "She blinded me with science" ). Anyway, now someone is offering me to buy the complete series (like 15 volumes) at a fairly reasonable price. I like new wave and want to collect old gems, but I fear there's "too much trash in this vault". Maybe someone here know this series and can help me out? Thanks in advance.

| Hi Nano, I know this collection and find it very good. On a collection like this you can't aviod songs you don't like. The guys who did this collection (Rhino) provided a great overview of the music of the late 70s/early 80s. If I find this collection with a fine price, I'll buy it, for sure. Peace, zeca azevedo |

| I always think Rhino do quality compilations. I've recently bought an Ashford & Simpson CD which is the best one I've seen for this act so far.

| Right you are Steely. Rhino do have total respect for the artists and never edit the original tracks (at least not to my knowledge) they are the top dogs when it comes to compilations 8) (they didn't pay me for saying this  ) |

| Nano, I have all 15 volumes (got them as cheap promos). These are the single versions (not extended cuts)...but they are quite excellent in terms of really compiling all those old obscure cuts you would have a hard time finding anywhere else. It's exactly what KROQ played here in LA all through the eighties. Check the titles on allmusic.com

| By all means,if you like New Wave, get it! I have all of the volumes(or used to-three got stolen) and I love them. There are some unknowns and I could think of so many more artists and songs that they somehow didn't include(can anyone say INXS,U2,Eurythmics,New Order,Depeche Mode,Siouxsie and the Banshees,REM,Dead Or Alive,The Cars,Grace Jones, and I could probably go on),but essentially I think thats a good thing. I can appreciate that it uses a lot of rare tracks that aren't usually played anywhere and a lot are quite good, some you wonder why they didn't become hits. I didn't know a lot of these before I got them and I grew to really like quite a few of them. Now I know a lot of what they are playing at my favorite 80's New Wave night. You mean that you dont dig "Mexican Radio" or "Walking In L.A."?! |

| Hi Goblin! Thanks, in fact I already got it (this thread is a bit old). Really interesting given the quantity of one-hit wonders, which was what I was looking for (no 20/20, though). Certainly its music and age span is quite wide, with things that I certainly wouldn't call "new wave"... but they're good anyway. Thanks for the reccomendation!

| I must admit, that there were quite a few songs on the series that I wouldn't consider new wave either, but I guess you could probably call new wave as stuff from an era, rather than a specific "sound". In fact, the sounds are so varied. |
