Default Favorite House of 2002

All right - let's see what's going on among all U house headz
out there.

Lots of excellent house music have come out this year. Among my favorites are the new Blaze album.
But who has been able to push the genre to a new limit ?

Will the Disco House thing continue in the new year ??
Is The UK Garage thing going to be accepted in The US ??
What will happen? :-? :
Let's share our thoughts.... :)

here's my list:

* Blaze – Do you remember house (chilli funk)
* Cassius – Sound of violence (virgin)
* Royksopp – Epple / Poor Leno / You remind me (great album, great mixes!) (astralwerks)
* Kenny Hawkes & Louise Carver - Play the game (music for freaks)
* Dj Gregory – Tropical Soundclash – the best non vocal track of the year! French nu-afro disco (Faya Combo)
* X-press2 feat David Byrne – Lazy (Skint)
* Shakedown – at night - kid crème funksta mix (naïve records)
* The Streets – ‘Original pirate material’ album – fantastic modern day beat poetry on the roughest 2step/breakbeat/ragga beats + ‘Weak become heroes’12” (Ashley beedle mix) (locked on)
* METRO AREA – Miura – fantastic down tempo nu-disco!

Also worth mentioning: the whole electro-clash revival going on! I’m a big fan of this new blend of electronic 80’s electro sound. It reminds me much of the first electronic house, new wave and New Beat from my youth. Lot’s of great tracks by artist like Felix the housecat, Miss kittin, Fisherspooner, Dj Hell, Bolz Bolz, Tiga & Zyntherius, ...

Best mix album: 2 Many DJ’s - as heard on radio soulwax pt.2 Check it out on: http://www.2manydjs.org/

And finally:
Cinematic Orchestra – ‘Every Day’ album (ninja tune) this is my best album of the year. Great jazzy orchestrated funked-up or chilled-out tracks. Musically marvellous!

I agree with you on a lot of points nonkel.

For me the best LP of the year is Au Rêve by Cassius, ans the best song is The sound of Violence.

It's for me the only album that brought something really new to electronic music this year.

the album of Metro Area is absolutely fantastic too.`

Just something you didn't speak about is "Sur la terre" by Martin Solveig, which is also a fantastic album.

Mine:

Tutto Matto - 'Peace' (DJ Porky Jamblock Club Mix)
Cassius - 'I'm a Woman'
Street Choir - 'Workin'
Praise Cats - 'Shined On Me' (Bini & Martini Re-Vocal)
Shakedown - 'At Night' (Mousse T Remix)
Angie Stone - 'Wish I Didn't Miss You' (Pound Boys Remix)
Impossible Beings 'Too Late' (Too Latex Mix - the other mixes lick the balls)
X-Press 2 vs. Alison Limerick - 'Lazy/Where Love Lives'

i'll add more when i get home and can look at my record collection!....

House 2002 has been a bad year for me because I've always been into filtered dizko, and the trend seems to have died of its own natural death (I guess the d.j's had run out of samples to cut'n paste) :(
Some tracks that surface though out of thin air are CZR "Soirée" (Moroder forever)
Junior Jack "Thrill me"
Major Boys "Back again E.P" & "Panamerica"
Antoine Clamaran "X-Perience", but even Clamaran has drifted into tribal house now

Dj Falcon & Thomas Bangalter "So much love to give" makes me believe in the future, though. :P

Default 2002 Faves

Perhaps a forgotten subject, but I must add some of my favorites from 2002:

"Harder Better Faster Stronger" (Heller Mix) - Daft Punk
"Resurrection" - PPK
"I See Right Through To You" - DJ Encore (from 2001 but peaked in '02 here in U.S.)
"Rapture" (Riva Mix) - Iio
"Can't Live A Day" (Tiesto Mix) - Avalon
"Can't Get Blue Monday Out Of My Head" - Kylie Minogue
"Love At First Sight" (excellent disco track!) - Kylie Minogue

and my very favorite track from 2002...
"A Song For The Lonely" (Almighty Mix) - Cher

Discodoc,
I'm not the one to argue or critizize but DJ Encore??? Are you serious  Not really quality house music in my book. Just more trance crap from the guy who did the theme song for the danish edition of the "Big Brother" reality show. I can't believe that it has been a US hit too :(

You're right, Kaybee, my tastes are definitely not strictly House music, but to be honest, House music has been on it's way out here. Many people use the term "House" when they mean "Dance" (a more commonly misused term is "techno.") But PURE house music seems to be out right now, as the traditional House giants (Junior Vasquez, Hex Hector and even Victor Calderone) have been leaning more in a Trancey direction ever since the Trance explosion in Europe. Now I understand that Trance is on it's way out in Europe, being replaced by comeback of a more traditional Eurodance (LaBouche for example), so that trend will likely follow here in the states (we're just a couple of years behind Europe in Dance Music trends).

I really had no idea that trance music is about to become big in the US. A bit surprising really....usually it works the other way around with musical styles & trend taking off in the US and then expanding to the european markets.

You're right about Hex Hector. I enjoyed the mixes he did a few years back (his work on George Michael's "Outside" is great) but I really can't bother with the stuff he's doing know....definteley more trance influenced than ever.

I must admit that sometimes i'm very surprised about some of the european artists making an impact on the US.
I mean stuff like Aqua's "Barbie Girl" was a big US hit but no americans (specialists aside) seem to know anything about quality artists like Incognito and D-Influence. Kinda sad, really :(. I guess just another case of bad promoting :(

Yes, whereas House compilations were all over the place during most of the 90's, today 4 out of 5 major Dance compilations in the US are heavily trance. Aside from Madonna's electronica & Kylie's disco, about the only dance music in the top 40 these days are trance (DJ Sammy, Lasgo, Iio, Darude, Ian VanDahl & a ploethera of trance influenced remixes). Last year "Days Go By" by Dirty Vegas was a hit, and that was considered by many to be "House." Mainly people consider US & England to be strongholds of House music and the remainder of Europe, esp Holland, Belgium & Germany to be Trance. But like I said, trance is quite the thing now in the U.S. (among dance circles, anyway). That, and "Chillout."

I love Blaze album too :D
So many good seductive house and downtempo tunes from Naked-music. I also liked Shazz, Glenn Underground, Nathan Haines, Jazzanova, Kyoto Jazz Massive, Metro Area, Schmoov!, Gotan Project, Ian Pooley....

Ok, I don't want to hear any opinion of that Trancy music. Trance is cool cool cool, i got it. Is here the place we talk more about "House" ain't it?
>>DJ Sammy, Lasgo, Iio, Darude, Ian VanDahl & a ploethera...
What a hell are those DJs? They are not considered to be House DJ. Talk about Maw, Louie Vega, Fracois K, Timmy Registford, Larry Heard, Kerry Chandler...
Wake up yesterday, wash your face, then go study here
