Just out of interest:

Do any of the above tracks make your hairs stand up on end, especially anyone who was older than 20 years old at the end of the '70's? Surely that's the power of music and I ain't feelin' it in any of the above, not even a twinge. Maybe it's my age or maybe it's their basic nothingness that's to blame. Who can say?

Yes, but that's probably because I'm too young.

Don't you think that some of the current dance tracks would have moved the disco crowd if they were to be transported to the 70's through a time machine?

Another recommendation from me:

Maybe it's just an age thing? Most generations think their music is better than subsequent generations. My parents certainly did and I suspect their parents did too. I'm constantly dicovering new (to me) disco sounding tracks from tte 90's that passed me by at the time, partly because my ears were not tuned to them.
What goes around, comes around.

Anyway, I'm off to a Sylvester tribute night tonight with my old dancing buddy. We're going because we're glad we're still alive!

I'm a 42 year old gay guy and have progressed through disco, hi-nrg, Chicago House, Acid, Rave & Hardcore, House, Trance & Big Beat.

But now? I'm having the time of my life busting a groove to Break Beat at Boomslang (The Junction in Cambridge), with DJ's such as Stanton Warriors, Kid Kenobi, Krafty Kuts & The Freestylers

Phat beats, mixed up with old skool samples, dub, reggae, ska & of course...breaks.

Progress & evolution innit

You can't say 70's disco is better than 80's House music - cos it's different genres.

Compare like for like surely, but as said before, there's good n bad from all genres.

Tired Madonna remixes?

I never tire of Sasha's reworking of Ray of Light!

And remember everyone sad Ravel was mad for his Bolero. But it builds and it builds - just like so much modern dance music

Breaks - the way forward!

Yes, I find that most Joey Negro remixes enhance the original intent of the song rather than strip away all its goodness. His releases are classic club fare. I still throw on Make A Move On Me...one of the biggest global club hits from last year and my favourite hit of his is Must Be The Music with Taka Boom on vocals.

Here are a few more current and semi-current dance hits:

I Believe In Dreams - Groove Junkies/ Andy Caldwell feat. Alexander Sky
GROOVE JUNKIES/ANDY CALDWELL feat ALEXANDER SKY - I Believe In Dreams
Love this guy's vocals!

Champs Elysees Theme - Bob Sinclar (Jamie Lewis Stepping Out At The Disco Inferno Mix)
Bob SINCLAR - Champs Elysees Theme (remix)
New remix really adds a nice disco appeal.

Chariots of Fire - Bodies Without Organs
YouTube - BWO - Chariots of Fire
This Swedish group has been hitting it big with hi-nrg fans who enjoy Blue System, Modern Talking, Bad Boys Blue etc. It's been out for six months or so but I've just started to mix in the Soundfactory mix in on my nights...and they're loving it!

Love Sensation '06 - Loleatta Holloway (listen to the 7th Heaven mix)
Loleatta HOLLOWAY - Love Sensation '06
This one's been around for awhile but I thought I'd include it as I feel it does this song great justice. The entire song is remixed instead of just teaser samples. I play the 7th Heaven mix which packs my floor. I had a young guy come running up to my booth this past weekend asking me if the name of the song was 'Love Sensation'. It makes me smile when I still see that genuine interest in unfamiliar club music.

Sexy - The Beach feat. Tia
The BEACH/TIA - Sexy
This one will make purists cringe but I love this! This uses the best part of Do You Think I'm Sexy and surrounds it with a galloping, house/NRG rhythm. Pass the poppers!

Oh Dear!!!! This is probably what some will be playing as entertainment to cheer me up, when I eventually end up in a Nursing Home.

Can I un-book my place, NOW??

That's great discokicks!
An old Dusty Springfield track reworked, I believe?

I can't get enough of "Turn me on" - Dirty Old Ann
& "Touch Me" - Houzecrushers
& "Guilty" - De Souza ft. Shena (very "Lola's Theme")
& "I Feel like" - Freemasons

Darn...is it another remake? Here I was thinking we had an original on our hands....but I checked and you're right. But what a great song to cover!

I love the Dirty Old Ann release and it's a big hit at the club where I dj. Kathy Brown's vocals are always so disco-inspired and just soar in a big room setting! Touch Me and Guilty are starting to grow on me but I don't know the Freemasons cut....is it new? It's not on their Shakedown album.

That's The Kind Of Love I Have For You was originally done by a Rita Jean Bodine in 1974 on 20th Century --I think it was mentioned in an early Tom Moulton column [after looking, I can't find any mention, so I must be wrong on this--but I think it was mentioned in some context in the Billboard pages that I used to do the early chart compilations]...I recently found a 7" of the tune...it has more of a rockish edge than Dusty Springfield's full-on disco cover from "It Begins Again"...(1978)

I know! it's a rare thing to come across a great sounding disco-inspired truly original song.
But that Freemasons track is one & it is on the album, CD1 track 4 - check it out. I think it might be a future single, it's getting a lot of play over here at the moment (more than "Rain down love"!) - so summery
Dirty Old Ann fills the floor all the time in my favourite club too

Wow, thanks for the history on that - I wasn't aware that Dusty's wasn't the original.
It's great to hear the track reworked by Joey Negro's label - that one's blowing up quite big over here at the moment

...I didn't even notice it on the playlists of Shakedown. It's such an incredible compilation that Freemasons put together with 28 tracks in total.

When You Touch Me with excellent vocals by Katherine Ellis is one of the standouts with its semi-Can You Feel It rhythm....and Nothing But A Heartache is such a nice throwback to the Supremes. I've been spinning the instrumentals Atlantic/Pacific and Desperadoes (sooooo gorgeous) at the beginning of my nights to set a nice, disco-ey atmosphere and I love the cover of Love Don't Live Here Anymore!

My favourite Freemasons mix, without a doubt, will always be Faith Evans' Mesmerized. Their remixing of this song gave us a current Candi Staton-styled track that is such a pleasure to play.
