the British band called New Order? The obvious complaint I suspect most people would have is that they sound too much like Pet Shop Boys, but I have 2 of their CDs, and I think songs like "Age of Consent", "Bizarre Love Triangle" and "Regret" are quite catchy.

New Order is a great group! Although I don't rush out and buy every single release, I find I can rely on them for intelligent, creative dance music. The Fire Island mix of Regret is my favourite....really like the song Krafty off their latest cd. I'm always amazed at the hoots and howls of appreciation that I get the odd time that I throw on Bizarre Love Triangle during my Saturday night set. It's nice to see the younger generation respecting some of the past.

Over at the New Wave sites, New Order are treated like Gods! :D I recall back in the early to mid 80's, the floors would fill up anytime New Order was played. Some great, great songs! Blue Monday was a big favorite as well as Perfect Kiss. Substance is a great 2 disc set to check out some of their 80's stuff. One cd has the extended versions, and the second cd has dubs, b-sides, etc.

Hey! Bizarre Love Triangle was and is still today in several discos a club anthem, probably the oldest anthem still going strong today. Blue Monday is also a very good track that can be remembered by the vinyl cover designed like a floppy disk.

"Over at the New Wave sites, New Order are treated like Gods!" They're treated like gods by many, many fans of dance music from the UK - especially their home town, Manchester.

I like all New Order DISCO tracks (Bizarre Love Triangle, The Perfect Kiss, Blue Monday, etc...), but I can't stand their ROCK songs. In that field, I think THE SMITHS and PREFAB SPROUT are better... they have more melodic songs. There is a CD by NEW ORDER which I like from start to finish: REPUBLIC. I think it is a great dance album... even the 12" remixes of SPOOKY and THE PRICE OF LOVE doesn't match the album versions. Strangely enough, I've read a lot of New Order Rock fans say it was their weakest effort. Well... not for me. But since you mention the pet shop boys connection, although I know New Order started first, I think the pet shop boys are better. Their songs are more melodic, beautiful and melancholic... in spite of the hi-nrg dance beat. Last edited by Paulo; June 19th, 2006 at 09:53 PM.

Just to tie things together, anyone who likes New Order should also check out Joy Division, the group they were originally. And one listen to Joy Division makes it CLEAR where Robert Smith stole the idea for the Cure's sound. And the new group called She Wants Revenge sounds like all these groups combined.

Ther are similarities and differences with New Order and Pet Shop Boys. the similarities are they have used the same remixers respectively with releases, Bizarre Love Triangle and West End Girls-Shep Pettibone and Regret and Go West-Farley and Heller. The differences are that New Order has a bassist and guitarist in addition to a keyboardist. The early Pet Shop Boys tracks used the PPG keyboard while New Order has tracks where the bass and guitar predominated like Regret and True Faith. I have done megamixes of both groups and played them on my 80's show I had a few years ago.
