Bernie
Can't You let
the Brazilian Guru
of Funk/SOul/Black Disco
Zeca

with some assitance from his apprentice
Blaxman

Make a top100 Balck Disco List
or Top 100 Funk Disco List

Cause Everytime a scheme through the Top500 Disco looking for songs to get....
A Come across a lot of nasty Euro Disco which is just
to be honest and blunt
in the way!

Like Cerrone
Munich MAchine
etc....

And would feature I list with stronger ties and influnces to Motown And Atlantic and the Artist they released and flourished in the aftermath of these two labels.....

I think it would be an excellent complement to the already mighty Top500 Disco Chart

With the song move on up, up up up

I mean I would of easily but Curtis Mayfield's Original version of this song ahead of This worse reproduction......

Hey SUTNOP,

thanks for your kind words about me, I'm sending your money very soon (LOL). I just want to say that my friend BLAXMAN is not my apprentice, he's a teacher and a student, just like everybody else on this FORUM.

As I told on other posts, I love SOUL MUSIC above all things. Maybe we (you, me, BLAX, BERNIE and others) should open a new topic about SOUL MUSIC and BLACK DISCO on the FORUM.

I agree with you about the MOVE ON UP thing: CURTIS MAYFIELD recording shoulda play more on parties, it's a great great great dance classic. I simply can't live without CURTIS' music and believe me, I even cried when I knew that the man passed away. CURTIS was one of these guys with a strong mind and a pure soul, an honorable man, a true example of love for life and music. He's playin' his guitar with the angels now, I'm sure.

Peace, SUTNOP.

I LOVE Curtis Mayfield's "Move On Up". I even consider it as an early disco song. Same with his "If There's Hell Below" song. They have the rhythm that's used in disco in the later years of the 70's.

Sutnop,

It was just a random poll. The Disco 500, that is.

If it were held again, everything would change.

I look at it as just a list of popular titles with artists and links as to where to find the music.

The rankings mean very little. I'm sure Bernie would agree lots of worthy records were NOT included. It's just the way folks voted--what they could remember--what Bernie & Maarten (what's happened to him, BTW???) could try to figure WHAT folks were voting for (not always easy). Lots of times the titles were sorta wrong; the artists were wrong, etc.

If there had been a Master List to choose from, the results would have been different. That's what we need to compile: with Bernie's & Boodi's ideas of creating an all-purpose resource for the history of Disco.

Count me in on the CURTIS MAYFIELD Fan Club! He is one of my all-time musical heroes!!! When I got a CD player for the first time last year, the first Cd collection I got was a CURTIS MAYFIELD boxed set - just to get my hands on that 9 minute version of Move On Up!!
A massive favourite in the UK!!

And Sutnop - I'd call it the Top 100 Black Music Purist's Chart

WE COME IN PEACE

I was gonna suggest a top 100 black dance songs...

on the top 500 disco list... you didn't get to see songs like
"Fight The Power" or "Mighty, Mighty"...

I think this is a good idea :D

Sutnot, I disagree with you on this. The top 500 is the result of tastes of a lot of people. I prefer the Curtis Mayfield version too, but I suppose more people prefer the Destination one.

BTW, on a dancefloor, it's really hard to blame Desination
