Never being one to beat a dead horse (yeah sure) I happened upon a somewhat telling (well, I think it is) post from Fantomas.

It's from the "What's In a Nickname?" (May 29, 2002) thread on page 2 of the Discuss Music Section.

Nano asks what our screen names mean.

The second respondent: Fantomas

Quote:

Fantomas was class #1 terrorist.
Lord of Terror and Genius of Evil."

Hmmm..."what's it all about, Alfie?"

A poor misunderstood soul or a trickster out to subvert and sabotage? I wonder.....

Hey Ricardo.
I am always amazed by those who profess such a strong faith in a god/religion of love and on the other hand be eager to pick up a M16. Nothing personal because I see this with many like yourself with strong faith based conviction. I guess I'm just curious how you rationalize the two extremes?

I don't think that Fantomas was out to "sabotage" this message board. I think that he was only giving his views on things, even if his approach was on the strong side. He isn't like Death, whose sole purpose of posting messages is to insult people with the intention of starting fights with them (thank God Death doesn't post here). I don't want to repeat myself (see my previous posts on this thread), so I'll end this message here.

First of all, a BIG THANK YOU to Bernie. I was starting to lose it again and let Fantomas get under my skin. If it had kept up, I'm sure you would have had good cause to ban me. My apologies also for rising to the bait the last few days. I had promised you I wouldn't and I broke that promise. I'll do my best not to break it again.

Secondly, for Ricardo:

You amaze and frighten me. I will grant that you do not have the full history of Fantomas/ClassicDisco on this board but you've seen first-hand how he acted here. Granted, there are topics that you may find bordering on disgusting and granted, someone did refer to Fantomas as a 'semi-illiterate Cuban', or whatever.

We're adults, if the topic displeases you, stop reading it. There was a heated discussion going on between 'nrgbeat' and 'outsider' recently. I skipped it. It didn't involve me and I noticed they both shut it down before it really got out of control. Said and done.

As for the ethnic slur, I won't excuse that. I was surprised to see it but I knew why it was there. I will say that I've been on the board more than a year and that is the ONLY time this person has written something like that. I can't say the same for Fantomas. He constantly and INTENTIONALLY would insult members here in one fashion or another. His comments were personal, albeit off-handed and sly, but he knew what he was doing. He had to bait someone into an argument. As you know, we talk about a lot of things here but only Fantomas would bring it to a personal level to piss someone off.

Having said this, you're probably saying,"So What?" Why do I frighten you?" It's simple: Fantomas may share your beliefs, but he seems to border on fanaticism. You, on the other hand, seem like an intelligent individual. Intelligent but blinded by someone's hatred simply because he thinks in ways that you do. There is absolutely NOTHING WRONG with believing in God, country, family and morality. I think most people on this board share these beliefs, in some degree or another. Our friend Paul is an atheist, but he's been nothing but moral here with us. I've had that M16 in my hand, even though my country believed and believes that the military would be better served without blacks and gays. It's when someone puts capitol (capital?) letters on COUNTRY, FAMILY, and MORALITY and then behaves as if their beliefs are the ONLY correct beliefs that problems start. Fantomas does this --- and sadly, you support him. An intelligent person supporting a racist, bigoted, conflicted homophobe because he says he believes in God. That is truly frightening.

You said in a previous post (I hope I don't mistate you) that there is NOTHING you find TOO EXTREME when it comes to protecting God, country and family. I hope you never live to regret that statement. You see, what usually happens, is when the Fantomas' of the world are through with "us", they come after "you".

Hi everybody! Happy 4th of July!

Thank you Outsider for your response. I agree with you 100%.

NickNack, I have to admit that your argument is well thought out and accurate. I do need some time to articulate my thoughts on a couple of things you said. I agree with them; I just need to add something to them but I can't quite think of the right words right now. I haven't held, much less use, an M-16. However, I have held AND used a .45 to save the lives of people I love and my own. We'll talk about that at a later time because it is a difficult issue for me.

Paul, you need to be a lot smarter to trap me into a loaded question like that. I don't "rationalize" religion, my love for this country, nor any other of the values I hold dear.

To begin with, religion and love of country are not "extremes." They are the kind of principles that make this country what it is; a decent, moral country that I admire, love, and respect. If you think religion and love for your country are "extremes' you need to rethink your position in life, my friend.

A long time ago, I learned from my family that we live between two worlds. One is peaceful, beautiful, and perfect --therefore very seldom real. The other --the real one-- is tough, hard, difficult, and ofetn violent. Our responsability lies in understanding those two worlds and trying to make the imperfect world as similar as the perfect one as we possibly can. We do that by working hard, honestly, and with integrity.

I would love to live in a world like the one John Lenon imagined. A world without flags, borders, or religions. And for quite some time I lived in that type of imaginary world. The results were disastrous for me.

As soon as I began to change the way I think, and started to live in the real world with a religious foundation as my moral compass, everything started to change for the better. My only regret is that I didn't change sooner.

Is there a conflict between being a Christian and being ready to protect this country at any time? No there isn't when you are PROTECTING the country and the principles you believe in. My friend, I hope you can understand the difference between PROTECTING your country and ATTACKING others. If you don't understand that difference, you probaly didn't see anything wrong with the events of September 11th.

I would never go out blowing away those who disagreed with my religious or my political points of view. That would be wrong. I am not some kind of fifteenth century Crusader, out ot destroy his "enemies." Neither am I an intolerant individual. I believe my posts can attest to that. I think I can describe myslef as a fairly open-minded and tolerant individual. That is one reason why I participate in these posts. I enjoy sharing my thought and ideas (as silly as they are sometimes with people from all over the world and from all kinds of backgrounds.

I am also an individual who stands for principles and values such as justice, love of country, love of family, and God. I am sure most of the members of these posts are too. Unfortunately, a handful of them seem to resent any kind of comment related to those principles.

Let's remember that tolerance and freedom of speech work both ways and for all those who express their opinions, not just in favor of a few.

I will add a few more thougths to this topics at a later date. My family and my frineds are waiting for my well-known barbecue ribs.

HAPPY 4TH OF JULY! GOD BLESS THE U.S.A.

Should I attempt an explanation or just shut up?

Hmmmmm. Yes, I typed "semi-literate Cuban emigrant".

Below the belt comment? You bet. I acknowledged that later. I was pissed. He'd achieved his goal. It was Saturday and I had the time to "get into it". I said that in our ongoing sparring I felt "sucker-punched" by his 1-2 nasty birthday greeting to HustleBaby and then his gay-baiting and fawning "I like all jokes about all ethnicities" comment, etc. Yeah, sure he does--when they're about "them".

The "semi-literate" comment had NOTHING to do with the fact that he's Cuban and EVERYTHING to do with his spelling, punctuation, failure to use prepositions, etc. Nobody was gonna hire him to edit their newspaper. Right, Jeff? That, coupled with his lofty pronouncements, which, to me, seemed cribbed from Rush Limbaugh and William Bennett, but, that he seemed to feel were print-worthy. I found them BORING and HUMORLESS.

Hey, all I ask is that someone give me a chuckle once in a while. Lots of the foreign players here crack me up constantly. Zeca, whether he's in a Viva Zapata-ish or country-western Huckleberry Hound mood, most often amuses. Others too.

There was no racist or nationality superiority intended in that statement. If you hold yourself up as a beacon of light and intelligence, take the time to make sure your message is being presented as clearly as possible. Ricardo's postings are always perfect. I thought Fantomas, for all his sneering lofty pronouncents needed help in the basics of grammar, punctuation, and spelling. That's all.

Oh, and a sense of humor.

Friends,

Sorry but, I think you're trying to re-invent the wheel.

One thing is clear here, at least to me:

- Fantomas was banned, basically for his inadequate behavior on the forums. He was several times alerted but, he keep being impertinent, tiresome again and again.
Please, that post at the "I Love A Parade" topic is tottally needless!!! Any idiot cloud see what that topic was about, so, if he didnt like that subject, why enter on it and post a silly message on it?

So, what could Bernie to do?

That's it people, is mainly behavior, manners and education question. Or the lack of it!

I consider all of you my friends, please let's fight (if necessary) for a cause better than this.

Peace, people.

Note:
If you read some new posts from a new member registered yesterday, I think you'll can feel some "Fantomas smell" in his words. So, I think you know what I mean......he is among us......believe me.

"He Is Among Us" wrote Blaxman.

Ooooh, I got a little chill.

I'm sure he is more than delighted with all the attention we have lavished upon him.

HE IS NOW LEGEND!!!!!!!!!! (truly all he ever wanted was to be seen as some Sage of DISCO--but, hey, we were there, too!!! We got our own memories. DUH!!!!)

If he does slip back in, believe me I'll know. I know all 3 of his topics.

The first time that fucking James Brown record is mentioned---SPLAT!!!!!!!!!!!

I hereby vow not to mention him again--EXCEPT as the punchline to one of my "jokes"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :lol

Oh, I don't doubt for a minute that he'll reregister under a different username. Forgive me for indulging in pop psychology for a moment, but look at it this way: if irritating others is such an important pleasure to him, how small is his world? I say "important" because obviously it means a lot to him, or he would've given it up ages ago. He seldom has anything constructive to say.

Ricardo, the thing that infuriates me the most about Fantomas is that he is a hypocrite, plain and simple. Look at his post about the passing of Linda Marciano (Linda Lovelace). He implies that she had no morals whatsover because she starred in porn, but says "Lovelace is dead and regardless of her past life style she deserves our respect". Well first of all, I don't think starring in porn is something to be ashamed of, but that's my opinion. Regardless, I think it is wrong to judge an entire person's character by just one side or action of theirs. However, I find the statement "regardless of her past life style she deserves our respect" to be ridiculous. Why would you suddenly give respect for someone you previously thought to be amoral, just because they're dead? Do Hitler or Stalin deserve our respect now?

Anyway, as the story goes, Linda claimed to have been abused by her ex-husband and went on to become an anti-porn crusader. Fantomas wrote " I don't believe for one minute that her husband beating her forced her to give BJs in front of a camera---this sounds to me like a lame "liberal excuse"." Ummm... isn't it usually conservatives who strongly oppose porn? Finally, from his first post, it is quite apparent that Fantomas has seen and enjoyed the movie in question. Now if Fantomas is so pure and moral and righteous, why was he watching amoral smut like that? So, if we are to follow Fantomas' philosophy, we should judge him as an immoral and worthless human being, just for that one act alone -- that is, until he's dead. Then he can have our respect.

Well my friends, my barbecue ribs were a success --as usual!!!-- and I got a couple of minutes before going out to see the fireworks.

From what I read, I sense that we all reached the point where we got tired of discussing the same thing over and over again. I also sense that not too many of you are upset with me and that most of you tolerate and may even share some of the basic principles I have mentioned here.

May I suggest we consider this topic dead and move on to a more enjoyable one? Does anybody second the motion?

Hy everybody! NickNack, you gave me an idea. I'm going to start thinking about some kind of gathering at our place here in Charlotte. With good planning we could end up with a great party in our backyard. Can you imagine Blaxman, Jazz, Funky Dude, Bernie, and company together over here? I like the idea and will start thinking about it.

By the way, the fireworks in Charlotte last night were superb! And that gives me an idea for a topic!
