Default Interview with remixer John Morales of M & M Mix availab

Finally got around to finishing and posting an interview with New York Disco DJ and remixer John Morales. John began by mixing Jocelyn Brown's "I'm Caught Up" and later teaming up with Sergio Munzibai in the early 1980s to form M & M Mix. Read it at:

what a great and interesting interview. I never know he did a remix of "I Can Dream About You". I remember hearing a percussive mix that I loved but have never been able to find it. The only thing I have seen is reference to a Larry Levan mix and that was the standard mix on the initial 12" over here.

I used to love the M&M mixes for their percussive elements.

I thought you used to be able to send a personal email to any poster but I don't seem to be able to do that anymore.

What a generous offer and thank you very much. My email is totoman@btinternet.com

Great - the stuff that dreams are made of.

As a long time "fan" im interested in the way you worked. Do you have musical training ? Did you just rearrange the tracks on the masters adding the percussion ?
Did you work with hired musicians ? if so were they the same all through the years ?

In the interview you mention something about you being the one doing the mixes. But when you worked together what were your roles in the mix and arrangement process ?

I could go on, but ohh the tought of you keeping all the masters is so unreal - its like knowing there is a guy with all Van goghs sketches out there.

I can see i only got approx 25% of your mixes - but judging from the list i got the top 25% :D
Favorite mix being Sandy Kerr Thugh Rock

And the one you shouldnt have done Shalamar a night to remember for that awfull UK remix album (everything was gogo remixed back then)

Default thanks

Hey thanks for your comments, and I thought the Shalamar stuff was ok... I learned that everybody has their own taste and form one person to another one mix is either great or it sucks, just the way it goes..

I have some stuff to do but I will answere all your questions in a few days when I can sit and do it properly.

Once again thank you for your comments Im glad you enjoyed mine and our work.. I did it with love and passion for the music.

Kaliffen & John,
These are great questions and since the interview is a historical document I would love it if both of you could post the questions and answers in the comments section of the interview at http://www.discomusic.com/people-more/4680_0_11_15_C77/ instead of here on the forum. Thanks.

I registered on the main site and tried to log in with no succes.
Which make me unable to copy paste my questions to Mr. Morales into the thread under the interview.

So sad so sad

Default Dan Hartman - I Can Dream About You

Mr. Morales,

I loved the interview, it was nice to get a glimpse at the mind behind the acetates ! Like I posted in the interview replies, I played for years in clubs, in Canada and used to love whenever new tracks would come in with the writting an "M&M" mix on the label.

Without wanting to start a trend here, I too was wondering how I could get my hands on that mix you made of Hartman's song. My email, for further discussion is djmikejames@sympatico.ca or my msn contact is found via djmikejames@hotmail.com

Thank you sir !
